Ghana winger Frank Acheampong insists his adventure in Thailand before moving to Europe was very helpful contrary to what many believe.

The 20-year-old shocked many with his move to Thai giants Buriram United in 2011 at a time many believed he was ripe for Europe.

Sceptics still believe the move to Asia has taken its toll on the career of the flying Ghana winger who is now with Belgian giants Anderlecht.

But the Ghana U20 star is adamant his move to Buriram United did more good than harm to his young career.

“I just wanted to get out of Africa,” Acheampong said on Futbol Mundial.

“When I got to Thailand, there were speculation. People were talking why with a good talent I didn’t move straight to Europe but I knew what I was doing.

“And I believed in my God that everything will move successfully when I go to Thailand.”

Acheampong is now almost a regular with Anderlecht after recovering from a slow start to his career in Europe.

The Ghana international is regarded one of the future stars of the Black Stars.
