Christian Atsu could wear the number 10 jersey for the Black Stars at the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

The 20-year-old, known for his sublime and dribbling wizardly is seen among his colleagues as the ideal player to inherit the famous jersey following the absence of Andre Ayew.

The injured Ayew has been axed from the team by coach Kwesi Appiah for his failure to report to the team’s training camp in Abu Dhabi on schedule.

Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah relinquished the number 10 jersey in the run up to the 2012 continental showpiece in Gabon and Equitorial Guinea – in a move which stirred so much controversy.

As the tournament in South Africa approaches, the debate as to who wear the famous jersey has resurfaced.

Those mooting for the Porto whizkid to be handed the number 10 jersey believe it will boost his confidence as the playmaker of the team.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is yet to decide on which player he will hand the favourite jersey to.

The jersey has previously been worn by legendary Abedi Pele and Stephen Appiah.
