If history repeats itself, Ghana will win Saturday’s 2014 CHAN final against Libya in Cape Town.
This is the second time Libya and Ghana will meet twice at one tournament final and on both occasions results at the end favoured The Black Stars.
-1982 The first time the two side’s met twice at this level was in 1982 when Libya hosted the Africa cup that year.
In that year, Ghana fought back to secure a late draw against the hosts Libya to finish 2-2 in their opening Group A game of the tournament in Tripoli.
George Alhassan gave the Black stars the lead in the 28th minute before Addelrazak Jaranah equalised in the 58th minute while Fawzi Al-Issawi put the hosts ahead 14 minutes from time.
However, Samuel Opoku Nti snatched the late equalizer to secure a vital point on day one of the tournament.
Libya and Ghana subsequently finished first and second in Group A respectively tied on four points to advance to the semifinals.
-1982 The two sides met again in the final in Tripoli and again a draw was the final result after a 1-1 score line at the end of extra time.
Al Hassan scored his second goal against Libya at the tournament in the 35th minute.
However, Ali Al-Beshari ensured Libya took the match to the wire with the equaliser in the 70th minute.
Ghana had the last word after winning 7-6 on penalties to pick up what would be their sixth and last Africa Cup title to date.
-2008Ghana beat Libya 3-0 in a 2010 World Cup Group Five qualifier in Kumasi.
That result was the insurance Ghana need because lightening didn’t strike twice in the return leg in Tripoli where they lost 1-0 in their final away fixture in Group Five before advancing to the final group qualifying round for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
