Ghana used experience to KO Cape Verde- Gyan

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says the team's rich experience helped them to eliminate Cape Verde at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars were second best to the Blue Sharks in their quarter-final clash on Monday but did what mattered by winning 2-0.

Second half substitute Mubarak Wakaso scored a brace-the first from the spot and struck an injury time goal.

Gyan, who won a penalty for the opening goal, admitted they had to struggle to dispatch the Cape Verdians.

"The first half was a bit frustrating," Gyan said in post match conference.

"We couldn’t go through their defence. But what made the difference in our victory, was the penalty. When we scored, the game became opened.

"Although in the second half they dominated, we stood firm. We have experience and we kept our composure and in the late stages, we scored our second goal.

"In tournaments, it’s about you winning and qualifying to the next stage of the competition.

"Especially in the quarter-final, when you lose a game, then you are out of the competition."
