Ghana practising penalty kicks during Wednesday's training session

Ghana players have been practising penalties pretty intensely ahead of Saturday’s quarterfinal clash with Cape Verde at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have suffered cruel penalty misses at major tournaments in the past and coach Kwesi Appiah is looking to banish the demons.

In preparation for the knock out stage of the competition the squad took some time in Wednesday’s training session at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University to rehearse.

Among manager Kwesi Appiah’s first five penalty takers will be Mubarak Wakaso, Kwadwo Asamoah, Christian Atsu and a few others.

Captain Asamoah Gyan has opted out of taking penalties in regulation time for Ghana but would be happy to step up if required in the shoot-out.

It’s a very good foresight but Ghana will win before the final whistle. 2-0 to Ghana.

  3. A concerned citizen says:

But prepare goalkeeper Adjei very well so when the eventuality occurs he will be in the post

  5. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

u guys dont listen. aa, allow the boys to practice at DAWN OR DUSK. IF YOU CAN CONVERT PENALTIES WHEN ITS DARK. YOU WILL BE MUCH SUCCESSFUL AT CONVERTING PENALTIES, FREE KICKS, CORNER KICKS N COMPLETE PLAYS DURING THE DAY TIME. ITS COMMON SENSE

    Don’t expose your ‘trade secrets’.

  7. African Consciousness says:

Coach Appiah you are the right man for the job. “Practice makes perfect” Do not leave any stone unturned getting the lads ready for Saturday and the rest of the tournament. To convert penalties you must practice to be skilled at it. Keep stats on the best poised converters at practice and use them during the game or if necessary during a shootout.

GOOD ONE THERE AND ANYBODY CAN SAY WHATEVER BUT I PERSONALLY DON’T GIVE NO SHIT TO ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL.MAPUKA IS A JOKE.

  9. Dr Who says:

Cape Verde are good at counter attacks so AA should warn Derek about those short midfield inaccurate passes.GH will win by 2-0.

  10. Alomo says:

I hope Cape Verde doesn’t defend with 11 in the box. No Jose Mourinho bus defending pls……………….

  11. kwame pito says:

another technique I Mr. Pito, want you to practice is counterattack. SET UP 4 ATTACKERS WITH THE BALL AGAINST 3 DEFENDERS AND SEE IF THEY CAN GET THE BALL INTO THE NET IN 15 SECONDS. If they fail correct their passess and positioning and RESTART.

also include cardiac fitness training and running a lot.
A.A to be an ultimate coach you need to be innovative. kudos.

Danie Ajei My Goal Keeper Choice for Penalty Kicks:

The coach should note this, because he is the best in Ghana when it comes to stopping penalty kicks. I urge Appiah to make immediate change in the goal keeping department if penalty kicks are to be taken. Daniel Ajei is no doubt the best in this department. Good luck Black Stars!!!

  13. Alex Big Daddy says:

Use Daniel Ajei for all Ghana penalty kicks. Nigeria is very wise in this department. Anytime Nigeria goes for penalties, goal keeper Dele Adenuga is called upon. Ghana shoulld do the same with Daniel Ajei. Good luck Black Stars
