South African U20 coach Amajita suffered a 3-1 loss to Qatar in an international friendly match played at the Grand Harmad Stadium in Doha on Saturday.

After dominating most of the play, Amajita conspired to make some suicidal errors and were duly punished to lose a match they could have easily won.

It was Amajita who started the brightest forcing a number of corners but Qatari goalkeeper Mohannad Naim thwarted attack after attack.

Tlotlo Leepile was the first to really test Naim but his ferocious shot was palmed away before Qatar replied with a dangerous own attack which drew a point blank save from Jethren Barr.

Amajita then gave away two dangerous free kicks and it was from one such set piece that Hilal Mohamed scored, beating the South African wall and a diving Barr to make it 1-0 just before half-time.

Tshepo Liphoko then came in for Haashim Domingo at the start of the second half and his inclusion almost paid dividends as his effort a minute after restart hit the upright and back into play.

After incessant pressure Pule Maraisane finally equalised for Amajita to make it 1-1.

But that good work was undone by another poor defensive play by Amajita who allowed Mohammed Ala’addin to waltz his way past a static U/20 defence before slotting past Barr to make it 2-1.

Qatar then made it 3-1 after Saoud Al Khallaqi had beaten an offside trap to slot past Barr.

Amajita leave for Russia on Sunday to take part in a 12-nation tournament which runs until 25 January.
