Ghana U20 captain Lawrence Lartey out of Algeria clash

The Ghana U20 team will be without captain Lawrence Lartey for the final group game at the African Youth Championships due to suspension.

The central defender is suspended for game against hosts Algeria on Friday after attracting his second booking of the tournament in the 1-0 win over Benin.

The AshantiGold defender had already been booked in the opening Group A fixture against Egypt.

He is thus to serve a mandatory one-match ban – meaning he will play no part in the crucial game against Algeria.

The Black Satellites need just a point against the hosts to qualify to the semi finals of the competition.

Avoiding defeat against the Algerians will also secure Ghana’s place at the World Youth Championships as one of four representatives from Africa.

  3. Dr Who says:

This is indeed a test of character of the coach and the team.playing the host nation who needs a win without your captain is a crucial test.A draw will see Ghana through.

  4. nana says:

If we draw and Benin wins by 2 goals we are out.

  5. selfmade says:

Sellas should maintain the aboagye guy,and used him as playermaker to link the defence and the attack!!! He was used as a defensive midfielder against the beninious and though he had a good first half,he was beaten to it by the strength of the benin players!!! Since we want only a draw to qualify,we should start with 442 formation when attacking using narh as a second striker behind assifuah and then change our formation to 451 when we defending!!! The narh guy is good in holding the ball,he should be deployed as an attacking midfielder whenever we lose possession of the ball!!! Since the algerians don’t have the physique like the beninois,we should allow aboagye the free room to operate, switch anaba to his midfield role and then sarfo gyamfi should start but he should try and release the ball early!! Ghana now has a big problem of defending our lead and just as the bs against dr congo, the satellite is doing the same thing and had the beninios taken their chances,he match could have being a draw!!! Communication is the most important thing for central defensive pairs and it seems our defensive pairs always don’t communicate!!! One problem i have seen about ghanaian teams of late is that we tend to defend deep( offside) or we defend from infield high always exposed our defence to unnecessary pressure and all our goals conceded right from Germany 2006 up to now is as a result of defending deep from infield( offside position) and it always caused us!!! Is about time we get our defensive priority right!!! We should choose one and stick to it!! We should choose from the ff… zonal marking, man marking, defending deep known as offside and the italian system of flooding our post with all our players!!!! Offside is not good for us bcos most of our players don’t know how to set it,zonal marking always leaves space in our central defence bcos of lack of commuication!!! The best option now is man marking coupled with Italian katanecio as most of our players are in seria a!!!! Viva the revolutioncooooooo

    • Nyafu says:

Selmade , the Aboagye guy you talk about has done nothing in the games he has played in , the loss against Egypt and the first half stalemate against Benin. Sellas should start the team that started the second half and maintain the playmaker , Moses Odjer who changed the game.

  6. selfmade says:

The ghanaian team i saw against benin is very very poor and i can se us coming home if we don’t improve waistband algerians and we shld bear in mind that the algerians as host ll be favoured!!! The selas satellite i saw looks very poor… no coordination,no teamwork and poor lack of leadership and if we qualify eventual, the team should be injected with better players but for now i keep my fingers cross!!! Their buildup is very slow too

  7. BLACK BOMBARDIER says:

If the tournament goes by the head to head rule, Ghana wíll go thru c a draw even if Benin wins by whatever margin.
