Ghana U-20 qualified for the African Youth Championships on a 5-4 aggregate scoreline

Ghana’s U-20 assistant coach Prince Owusu concedes to a tactical mistake in the opening minutes of the 3-1 defeat to Morocco on Sunday.
The Black Satellites found themselves 2-0 down early in the first half of the final qualifier for the African Youth Championship.
Ghana carried a 4-1 advantage into the game but were in real danger of elimination after just 20 minutes of the game played in Rabat.
Coach Maxwell Konadu with his technical team had to change things quickly to stabilize the over-run Ghana midfield.
Smallboy Cobbah who started the game in a three-man defensive unit at the start of the game had to be taken off for Derrick Mensah.
This substitution proved very productive as the Black Satellites held their own against the Moroccans until late in the game where they conceded from a dubious free kick.
And no.2 Owusu admits to a tactical blip at the start of the game.
“We made a mistake and that resulted in we conceding the two quick goals,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“But we realized it and quickly changed things which helped us a lot.
“The most important thing is that we got the qualification we wanted and now we have to work even harder to present a solid team for the tournament itself.”
Lucky this time…..sick of win at home and lose away …..doesn’t show a real championship outfit…anyway best of luck in Algeria
How could you play 3 men defensive game when you are 4 – 1 ahead? It should have been 5 men defesive game from the start. Why would you push men forward when all we needed was a draw?
@ Africanus….My brother, you have said it all!! Ghanian coaches don’t know tiiin!! Akwasi Appiah has also already started telling his players to play all out in Malawi, although we are already leading by 2 goals. They have to come, we defend and take them on the counter!! These Ghanaian coaches suck big time!! Well, I pray they go through anyway.
@Africanus so true, should have packed the midfield and played one man upfront, a deadly striker of course
I am glad Coach Max is going to drill into his head Coach Appiah the need to pack the D. Play 4-5-1 against Malawi and let them sweat. Do not take any chances by attacking just defend and counter, play the rope a dope against Malawi. Mohamed Ali style.
3 defenders, who ever heard of such a thing when you are ahead 4-1. Wow!
