Ghana U-17 ladies captain promises gold at World Cup

Captain Priscilla Okyere says Ghanaians should expect an historic U-17 World Cup feat in Azerbaijan.

Okyere who scored a brace in the Black Maidens’ final qualifier against South Africa is a product of the maiden Airtel Rising Stars tournament which was held last year.

And at the launch of the competition’s second season in Accra on Tuesday, the youngster promised to lead the side to an unprecedented gold medal at the mundial.

“We are going there (World Cup) to win the cup,” she told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“The teams there are not better than us. And also we have learned our mistakes in the last world cup so we are prepared for the ultimate.

“There are very good players in the team and we also have very good coaches who believe i us so I see no reason why we cannot come back home with the trophy.”

The tournament kicks off from 22 September to 13 October, 2012.
