Ghana to train today ahead third-place match against Mali

Ghana will train today in Port Elizabeth for Saturday’s third-place play play off against Mali at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The Black Stars arrived in the Eastern Cape Province on Thursday afternoon after a disappointing penalty shootout semi-final defeat to Burkina Faso in Nelspruit.

The team did not train yesterday and will shake down today before head coach Kwesi Appiah decides on which players will play.

John Pantsil, who pulled a muscle in the semi-final clash against Burkina Faso, is an injury doubt.

Captain Asamoah Gyan, who had a swollen knee after Wednesday’s clash, might sit out the match.

Morale in camp is at its lowest ebb but the team need to pick themselves up for their final match of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The match against Mali is a repeat of what happened in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea last year where both teams played each other twice with the Eagles winning bronze.

Give the bench players too chance to play for exposure. Akwasi appiah has learnt massive lesson from this modern afcon where big names don’t matter bt excellent team work nd determination only.
