Ghana to name final 2012 AFCON squad in few hours

Posted On Wednesday, 11th January 2012

Ghana will not delay submitting its final squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

All qualified teams for the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea are expected to submit their final 23-man squads latest by 23:59 GMT Wednesday.

And with influential Asamoah Gyan still out injured, some suggestions have been made to defer submitting the final squad to afford the 26-year-old more time to make a full recovery.

However Ghana FA President Kwasi Nyantakyi insists this option is not under consideration and that the squad will be submitted by close of day.

“We will submit the final list as expected of us by Caf,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“Caf allows changes to be made on submitted squads on medical grounds so that effectively gives us more time to observe any injuries especially with Asamoah Gyan.”

Failure to comply with this directive of squad submission will attract a fine of $3000.

    I don’t why Ghanasoccernet can’t speak about players wthout mentionning their ages. The age is not neccesary!!! When you read foreign sports news, they hardly speak about ages of players. They just go ahead to say what they want to say.

    Joy Sports can confirm that Renne defender John Boye and the leading goal king in Ghana, Emmanuel Baffoe have been dropped from the Black Stars squad preparing for the Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

    An impeccable source in camp confirmed that John Boye will be returning to his base in France but Baffoe will remain as the medical team monitors the injury situation of lead striker Asamoah Gyan.

    Coach Goran Stevanovic early on named a provisional 25 man squad all of who converged at Rustenberg, South Africa in preparation towards the biennial tournament which begins on January 21.

    The team is running against time to present its final 23 man list to Caf on Wednesday, failure which it will be fined.

    Given the situation with Gyan it is very likely the Black Stars may miss the deadline, but the source said Ghana is ready to pay the fine if it becomes necessary.

    The final 23 man list is as follows;

    Goalkeepers: Adam Kwarasey, Daniel Adjei, Ernest Sowah.

    Defenders: Samuel Inkoom, John Paintsil, Daniel Opare, Masawudu Alhassan, Lee Addy, John Mensah, Jonathan Mensah, Isaac Vorsah

    Midfielders: Charles Takyi, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Derek Boateng, Anthony Annan, Mohammed Abu, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari, Andre Ayew

    Strikers : Prince Tagoe, Derek Asamoah, Asamoah Gyan, Jordan Ayew.
