The home-based Ghana stars  have offered a word of gratitude to the people of Bloemfontein for their support during their Chan semifinal win over Nigeria on Wednesday night.

The two giants of African football locked horns as they battled for a space in the final of the tournament, but a resilient Ghana stood firm and edged the Super Eagles 4-1 on penalties, after the match ended 0-0 following extra-time.

Social media was abuzz throughout the game about the singing and dancing of the crowd in the stands, who were vying for the Black Stars. Interestingly, most of the chanting fans were Bloemfontein Celtic supporters, with number one supporter Botha Msila leading the proceedings.

Ghana’s media liaison officer, Ishmael Mokitlana, told the Siya crew, “The players really appreciate the support the team got in Bloemfontein. The people of Ghana who live in Bloemfontein and the locals there know each other, so they came together and spurred the team on. They helped the team to get to the final and we are happy about that.”

Kwesi Appiah’s men will take on Libya in the final at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening and are considered by many as favourites to clinch the title.
