Ghana sweat on Kissi-Boateng injury ahead of AFCON

Posted On Monday, 31st December 2012

Richard Kissi Boateng suffered a leg injury during last Sunday's Glo Premier League match against Amidaus

Ghana have fresh injury concern after home-based defender Richard Kissi Boateng picked up an injury on Sunday in the Ghana Premier League.

The 24-year-old remains a doubt for Ghana’s pre-Africa Cup of Nations camping in Abu Dhabi which begins on Saturday January 6.

The Berekum Chelsea left-back suffered a knock at the closing stages in their shock 1-0 defeat to Amidaus Professionals at the Golden City Park.

He failed to continue with the match and was replaced by striker Musa Mohammed.

Boateng could not walk on his feet and had to be carried on the back of a club official.

He must pass a late fitness test before the team’s departure to the Middle East on Friday.

Boateng caught the eyes of Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah after impressive displays in the 2012 CAF Champions League.

He is one of five locally-based players in the preliminary 26-man squad.

WE SAW WAT HAPPND AT AFCON 2012 WHEN WE TOOK HALF CROCKED PLAYERS LIKE JOHN MENSAH, BADU, GYAN ETC…STP DOING THAT. U DONT TAKE SICK SOLDIERS TO WAR. RAHIM AYEW CAN PLAY THE POSITION. HEHAS PRIOR AFCON EXPEREINCE. THING FOR YOU NEVER LOSS. ASANTE HAS NT BEEN VERY CONVINCING IN THE LEAGUE TO WARRANT AN AFCON CALL UP ANYWAY. DROP HIM

    • kwame pito says:

Actually My bad. Rahim Ayew is right footed player and only used as utility in Left Back. (LB) . we cannot afford to play utility players when a left footed Leftback player like David Addy is around. David Addy is a regualr starter in portugal. He has previous Afcon experience. Please A.A call David Addy to fix the Left back position. LEFTBACKS FOR LEFTBACKS, RIGHTBACKS FOR RIGHTBACKS, simple. Do not play right footed players at LB position and vice versa. we need to learn from our mistakes.

  2. kwame agyei says:

We also have left back, David addy and Nana kwasi Asare both playing reguraly 4 their club

  3. Blow says:

Spot on Ghanafuo! Rahim Ayew is the answer but alas,he is in Appiah’s bad books.Believe it or not DRC will approach thier openner against Ghana like a final.

  4. Maxwell Johnson says:

He’s a SHIT player, I wasn’t even in supportive of his inclusion in the 26 man squad. A.A should drop him including Asante & Derek Boateng.

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

MUAAHAHAA, I DONT KNOW WHY AA CALLED HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE GUYS DIDNT IMPRESS IN THE CHAMPS LEAGUE. ONLY CLOTTEY DID ALL THE WORK FOR CHELSEA. ASANTS IS ALSO NOT PLAYING WELL IN THE LOCAL LEAGUE. HOW MANY GOALS N ASSISTS DOED HE HAVE UP TILL THIS POINT? HE DOSENT DESERVE A SPOT. I THINK MPONG IS EVEN A BETTER WINGER THAN ASANTE. WHO IS THE BEST LOCAL WINGER IN GH?

      • Fred B. Kyeremeh says:

“only Clottey did all the work for chelsea” Really? How did one man do all that? Let us just be honest with ourselves. How could he do ‘all the work’ on the field without the support of the other team mates? I wonder which games you watched to say that.I do not doubt the contribution of Clottey in their Champs League games, but discounting the efforts of the rest of his team mates is dishonest,to say the least on your part.Every player on the field of play is tasked with a specific role towards attaining the set targets of the entire team,Clottey scoring the goals is no news to me.Did you expect the goal keeper to also come forward and score goals under normal circumstances?
To discount the role of Solomon Asante in the chelsea team during the Champs League campaign makes me wonder the more which of their games you watched. I watched every single game that Chelsea played in Ghana, both in Berekum and in Accra(6 in all including the qualifiers) as well as those away games that were shown on TV(3 Champs league games). The chap was the most impressive in the entire Chelsea team despite Clottey scoring the goals. Just be objective and praise when necessary and otherwise. I am tempted to believe you just hate the chaps you mentioned. They have every right to be in the team if the coach sees them in that respect.I have no issue with any of the players selected by the technical handlers. The fact that some of my own preferred players were not selected doesn’t make the 26 players called to camp any bad. They all qualify as Ghanaian footballers.Just wish them well and stop hating. The name of the game is soccer,a team work and not boxing or singles tennis(They even thrive on team work principles between players and technical team effort). Long live GH

  5. burgar says:

can u guys pls shut up nd pray 4 da bs team…

  6. Jusco Chikubabe says:

Ghanian brothers, how can the coach take a player who’s not fully fit when you have good players all over europe who can take up the mantle from the injured player. Never take the gumble you mighty meet the afcon champions in the later stages of the tournment. They have the attitude of dura-cell, the never say die attitude and you mighty crumble this time as well. The morale in our Zambian team is every high coupled with the unity which is vital for any team in persuit of something. Just warning……..!

  7. Dr Who says:

Either he calls Nana Kwesi Asare or he leaves the team as it is and reduce the players by two.Afterall Wakaso and Afful can play that position.

  8. Blakroze GH says:

Finally, a zambian who is actually putting something on the table,Chikubabe God bless you for actually speaking like a true opponent who actually wants an even competition to determine the greats, you are the perfect example your country men should emulate, and not go about ridiculing any country….but it is what it is….rather unfortunate that your subtle warning may fall on death ears, actually coming to think of it I “respect” you in particular cos you are not the type to “sucker-punch” your opponents, but rather, you give them a fair chance to prove themselves….that my friend, is a true African spirit exhibited by a champion man, kudos. I totally agree with you on what you said

  9. Deus Wa Soccer says:

@Blakroze GH,I like it when the game is in full throttle-Zambia Vs Ghana because you see real talent,I actually agree with Chikubabe and you that we got to use fit players. They will do you good and prooud. My free advise to ur team manager is to spread the net wide for capable players who are all over the globe and forget the hate game. Am Zambian but I love BLACK STARS

  10. Jusco Chikubabe says:

@Blackloze GH & Deus wa Soccer, thanks for the compliments. I blog with a lot of respect and palatable words. Am unlike some people that do not show respect to one another. Africa our great continent has brotherly love but, its unfortunate that people are coping the culture from western countries that promote an eye for eye to a brother. God bless you Ghanians and my fellow Zambian Deus wa Soccer in Ghana!

  11. tiger says:

Since Ghana won AFCON cup in 1982 they have never win any trophy for 31years. But for this year i believe that Ghana will surely lift the trophy in south africa to end 31 years trophy drought. Now that the new year is 2013, you can just put 1 behind 3 and you will see 20’31′. Therefore, this new year is the year we will end 31 years trophy drought. Trust me!

  12. kwame pito says:

Rahim Ayew will be a fine replacement. I think A.A should call him to justify his inclusion in camp. GH FUO well said.

    • kwame pito says:

Actually My bad. Rahim Ayew is right footed player and only used as utility in Left Back. (LB) . we cannot afford to play utility players when a left footed Leftback player like David Addy is around. David Addy is a regualr starter in portugal. He has Afcon experience. Saturday is Jan 5 and not 6th.

  14. osei philip says:

gh fuo u dont knw any thing so u better shut up. Hw do u expect appiah to use rahim ayew @ left back .man look u r a bozzo in de game.

    • Papa Nkrumah says:

Easy man. Rahim has played in that problematic problem for BS before and he did a fairly good job too!

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

FOOLISH OSEI PHILIP. WAT A NAME. IDENTITY CRISIS NAME WEI? WEN WERE U BORN? RAHIM IS IN FORM AND FIT. HE HAS PRIOR AFCON EXPERIENCE. I SAY AA SHOULD DROP SOLOMON ASANTE AND KISSI BOATENG. WHERE WERE THESE 2 WHEN ZAMALEK WHOPPED CHELSEA 5 NIL? AA SHOULD CALL RAHIM AYEW FOR THE WING, AND DAVID ADDY FOR THE LEFT BACK SPOT. EVEN MPONG IS BETTER THAN SOLO ASANTE ON THE WING. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT AA SEES IN ASANTE AT ALL….

  15. kwame pito says:

David Addy of vitoria guimaeres should be called if necessary not rahim ayew. Kissi Boateng is a Leftfooted Leftback player same as David Addy.

  16. Coconutman says:

I wish Kissi Boateng speedy recovery but in case he is not fit for AFCON, the Black Stars have enough defenders included in the provisional 26 squad, but the strike force is very thin indeed. This is a chance for Coach Appiah to make amends call up Waris and take a closer look at this Ghanaian treasure! “The stone that the builders rejected has become the head of the corner”?
