Agyemang Badu will not play for the Black Stars on Saturday

Ghana have suffered an injury blow ahead of next week’s decisive 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier as midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has been ruled out of the game.

The 21-year-old was part of the squad revealed by coach Kwesi Appiah for the game in Lilongwe.

But a troubling knee problem has left Ghana authorities with no option than to have the Udinese midfielder replaced.

“A  knee injury he suffered while playing for his Italian club in the Europa League on Thursday means he will not be available for the Black Stars for the game,” the Ghana FA said in a statement.

Italy-based midfielder Afriyie Acquah has been drafted in to replace Agyemang Badu.

Agyemang-Badu is a key player for the Black Stars and his absence will trouble coach Appiah as he was seeking to have his best materials available for the game.

But Acquah who is a regular performer for Italian side Parma this season will be seeking to impress to be able to seal a regular place in the squad.

Anthony Annan‘s partnership with either Acquah or Rabiu infront of the defence will be very crucial for the success of the Black Stars. With God on our side,I know we‘ll come back from Malawi unscratched.

  2. sammy says:

cant blive dis, he played 90mins last thursday against liverpool so when did he got injured? italians r maffians.. i perfer d GFA shld send d doc or his team shld send his medical report for us to see.

  3. Maxwell Johnson says:

GSN pls stop making it sound like Badu is our Messiah, for me he is just an average player with no exceptional qualities. His only asset is his stamina, but he lacks so many qualities as a midfielder. There are hundreds of midfielders who are equally good or even better than him but have not been given the chance to showcase their talents, enough of this unnecessary hype.

  4. Robb says:

If he had sustained the injury on international duty that would have painted a different picture. Most of Essien’s knee problems has been blamed on Ghana.
Badu should be given enough time to heal before his come back.

  5. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

AA SHOULD HAVE CALLED EITHER ABEYIE, OR YARTEY TO REPLACE HIM. IVE SEEN ACQUAH PLAY AND IM NOT IMPRESSED WITH HOW HE PLAYS.

DIDNT I TELL UTOLEAVE AGYEMAN BADU SO HE CAN HEAL AND CONCENTRATE ON HIS CLUB? NOW,U SEE…

WARRIS SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH BOAKYE YIADOM. HE IS INTELLIGENT N CAN SCORE WITH HIS HEAD. WARRIS IS NOT A BETTER STRIKER. HE JUST PLAYS IN A VERY MEDIOCRE LEAGUE

GH STRIKERS SHOULD BE AFFUM, YIADOM, CLOTTEY N GYAN….

  6. Dr Who says:

@GH FUO,though you are entitled to your opinion,I disagree with you if you say Waris is not a good striker as compared to the other strikers we have. How many opportunities has Waris been given by AA to make you draw that conclusion? The guy keeps banging in goals and you say he is not good.Lets wait till he gets the chance like Clottey & Jordan had so we can judge.Dont draw conclusion based on his league because Clottey couldnt survive in Europe yet he can back to do well in Africa & he is in the team.Katongo is in China yet our defenders who claim to play in top leagues are not able to stop him.Lets wait for everybodys turn,so we can conclude.

    • GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

DR. WHO ARE U ASKING ME A QUESTION OR WAT? U DONT EVEN KNOW HOW MANY TIMES WARRIS HAS APPEARED IN A GBSTAR JERSEY BUT U ARE WILLING TO SAY IM WRONG? HE IS SCORING IN A USELESS, MEDIOCRE LEAGUE IN SWEDEN. HAVE U EVEN WATCHED HIM PLAY IN THE SWEDISH LEAGUE BEFORE? WARRIS IS NOTHING BUT ABEN WO HA PLAYER. LOOK, FORGET ABOUT THE PAST N CONCENTRATE ON NOW. AS FAR AS NOW IS CONCERNED,CLOTTEY HAS DONE MIGHTLY WELL WITH B CHELSEA AND DATS WHY HE IS IN TUNISIA. CLOTTEY DESERVES TO BE CALLED TO GBSTAR ESP. WHEN WE ARE PLAYING AGAINST AFRICAN OPPOSITION. IF KATONGO WAS DAT GOOD, HE WOULD BE NOMINATED FOR AFRICAN PLAYERS OF THE YEAR, OKA.ZAMBIA BEATS GH 1 NIL AND ALL OF A SUDDEN KATONGO IS ABEDI PELE? U ARE HIGH ON SMTHING BECOS U EVIDENTLY CANT SEE FORM UR LEFT N RIGHT….ODURO WAS BANGING IN GOALS LIKE A MAD MAN LAST SEASON IN THE MLS. DOES THAT MEAN HE IS THE BEST STRIKER FOR GH? WATCH THE SWEDISH LEAGUE N SEE THE QUALITY OF THE SWEDISH PLAYERS. GYINA HO GYE LEAGUE WEI….TWEA!..EVEN IBRAHIMOVIC SAID IT DURING THE EUROPEAN CUP THAT HIS TEAM SUCKS BCOS THE LEAGUE IS TERRIBLE. WAT ESLE DO U WANT? CANT U EVEN DEDUCE THE POTENCY OF A NATIONAL LEAGUE BY HOW THEIR NATIONAL TEAM PLAYS? SWEDEN….LEAGUE IS GARI SOAKINGS LEAGUE….GYAN IS PLAYING IS A SIMILARLY MDIOCRE LEAGUE AND DATS WHY HE IS SCORING IN BUNCHES EVEN AT THIS STAGE IN HIS CAREER. U THINK HE CAN GO TO KOREAN LEAGUE OR ANY OF THE TOP LEAGUES IN EUROPE AND SCORE LIKE THIS? HELL NO! THINK!

  7. ahoofe says:

i had watched Afriyie Acuah’s game and to me he is not black star material and Agyemang Badu committed to the black star is currently not encouraging at all

  8. Idan says:

Ghanafuo don’t mind A.badu is an old age injury

  9. Luapula Fish says:

Lets be real this player is old you cannot compare him to Zambia’s Nathan Sinkala ,Mayuka or Sunzu .They are young players and their faces can prove it.Unlike Ghanian players who appear very old and claim they are less than 25yrs of age.yhis is a typical example
