Ghana striker Waris opens Spartak Moscow goal account with a double

Posted On Friday, 15th February 2013

Abdul Majeed 'Striker' Waris is joined by his team-mates to celebrate his opener for the Russians in their friendly win over Otelu on Friday evening in Spain

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris got off to a flying start in his Spartak Moscow career by scoring all two goals in their 2-1 friendly win over Romanian side Otelu on Friday evening in Spain.

The 21-year-old former Swedish Allsvenskan golden shoe winner opened the scoring for Spartak in first-half stoppage-time and doubled their lead ten minutes after the break.

Waris employed his incredible pace to race through the Romanians defence and connect with a team-mate before rifling a powerful shot to the far post.

He advertised his quick alertness in attack when he capitalised on a defensive hawler to round up the Otelu goalkeeper to score the match winner in the 55th minute.

“I’m very happy to score on my debut for the club and I hope to keep up like this because this is I have been brought here and I know things will continue this way if I continue working hard,” he said.

He was replaced just after the hour mark.

Spartak Moscow are in Spain for a training programme and will play two more friendly games before returning to Russia for the resumption of the Russian Premier League next month.

Kudos AWR, keep on working hard your right time with the national team will surely come. Hopefully you translate this form into the league proper when it resumes, all the best.

    • Africanus says:

This is the striker Ghana needs, a striker who does not miss chances when they come. Give him two and he will score two. Unlike Gyan who scores one out of twenty chances.

Appiah must formulate his striking force around Warris, Jordan and Boakye-Yiadom. Gyan should never be called into the Black Stars until he moves back to a competitive league.

  3. kaiser john says:

i think this time around kwesi appiah would not over look him.calamity coach.

  4. gentle john says:

I now understand why people don’t like Kwesi Nyantakyi and his gang,i thought they are good and wanted Black Stars well but i have now seen they are only interested in money,i think the Government should force them to account for the funds the sent to South Africa and if there are misuse of funds they should charge costing financial lost to the nation and they must go to jail.
How can you ask this incompetent Kwesi Appiah to continue as Black Stars coach,i am very sad for Ghana football,we will not qualify for the Brazil World Cup because of this greedy bastards group call GFA.

  5. Black Stars Fan says:

His team-mate is Emenike, the current goal king of the AFCON 2013. AA should call him in every game even if he is not going to play, till he becomes a full-fledged and prolific striker. The same goes to Jordan and Yiadom. These three will become our deadly trio at the 2014 WC.

  6. Troy says:

Requelme said Warris won’t be playing because of Emenike let’s see who takes who’s place. Shout out to Efe Ambrose lol.

  7. Pito says:

PLEASE SOMEONE SHOULD PASS IT ON TO Appiah. We want you to succeed, not fail us again.
PLAY A FORMATION SIMILAR TO WHAT OUR GOOD PLAYERS PLAY AT THEIR CLUBS. RICHMOND, JORDAN, WARRIS.
MARSEILLE PLAYS WITH 2 STRIKERS UP. SASSUOLO PLAYS WITH 3STRIKERS UP AND SPARTAK MOSCOW, I RECKON IT IS NORMALLY 2 OR 3 NOT SO SURE.
EVEN GYAN IN AL AIN THAT GULF CLUB DON’T PLAY ALONE UPFRONT. BUILD OUR STRIKE FORCE WITH RICHMOND AND JORDAN, THEY HAVE HEIGHT , TECHNICALLY GIFTED AND HAVE A DREAM TO CHASE. Gyan has made his dream and big money move to the gulf. Warris is also an asset. No serious team plays one striker alone.

  8. Dr Who says:

Now is the time for Waris to be given enough play time.I believe AA has not studied him well.Clottey has had enough opportunities but is yet to score a goal for the BS.Lets give Waris similar opportnities and see what he can offer.AA gave up on Waris when he started him against Cape Verde in a friendly last year which he failed to score. We need everyone on board in our quest to qualify for Brazil 2014.

    • Very Sad Man says:

You can say that again. How many goals has Gyan scored at both AFCONS 2012-2013. I each.
Something is seriously wrong with Akwasi Appiah’s coaching experience, how could you leave, Warris, Jordan, Dede, Quincy and Acquah out of the squad and plan to win against all these serious and hungry nations who are desperate to win the trophy?
Sudan is coming to Kumasi with a lot more determination to revenge. Is Appiah ready for Sudan?

  9. Bukuya says:

Kudos to Abdul Majed Waris, by da way best of luck maestro.

  10. Fresher says:

If I am Abdul Majeed Waaris, I would naturalize for Burkina Faso or Togo. Let us keep our fingers crossed and see how this wonderful guy will be demented and his brilliant career destroyed by the Ghana FA’s EVIL touch, should he start playing for those revelers in crass superstitions and witchcraft called the Black Stars.

  11. LoLvFunny says:

For me I feel like the GFA and the Coach are not interested in Gud and intelligent players

  12. sabato says:

Now it is very obvious that we have 4 very talented up nd coming strikers we must encourage and give them confidence to shine; Rich Boakye Yiadom, Jordan Ayew, Abddul Majid Warris and Samuel Affum.

  13. sabato says:

Now it is very obvious that we have 4 very talented up nd coming strikers we must encourage and give them confidence to shine; Rich Boakye Yiadom, Jordan Ayew, Abddul Majid Warris and Samuel Affum. AA shine yor eyes and be wise.

  14. African Consciousness says:

Forget about Jordan, he set the record for the fastest red card ever in Ligue 1. The is an immature character and he is just not good enough. He has a bad attitude. He must not be invited back. I like the character of Waris and Boakye along with their game.
