Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has been named in a 4-man shortlist featuring Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the Swedish Footballer of the Year award, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Udinese striker Mathias Ranégie as well as Galatasaray forward Johan Elmander are also in contention for the award which will be announced on November 12.

The 21-year-old is also the hottest favourite to win the Swedish Allsvenskan player of the season after bagging 22 goals from 25 games.

Waris is the only foreign player to make the last four list after his impressive scoring form for BK Hacken this season.

He became the first player in the Swedish top flight's history to hit a quintet in a single game and he is two goals away from equalling Peter Ijeh's 24 goal record.

The former Right to Dream Academy graduate is in pole position to win the Sportbladets Golden Ball award but is facing stiffer competition from PSG striker Ibrahimovic who has won the award six times.

Swedish-born Ghanaian Robin Quaison has also been nominated for the discovery of the season award.

English defender Anita Asante who is of Ghanaian descent has also been nominated for the Women's Player of the Year award.
