Abdul Majeed Waris is in contention for Sweden's best player award

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has been named in a 4-man shortlist featuring Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the Swedish Footballer of the Year award, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
Udinese striker Mathias Ranégie as well as Galatasaray forward Johan Elmander are also in contention for the award which will be announced on November 12.
The 21-year-old is also the hottest favourite to win the Swedish Allsvenskan player of the season after bagging 22 goals from 25 games.
Waris is the only foreign player to make the last four list after his impressive scoring form for BK Hacken this season.
He became the first player in the Swedish top flight’s history to hit a quintet in a single game and he is two goals away from equalling Peter Ijeh’s 24 goal record.
The former Right to Dream Academy graduate is in pole position to win the Sportbladets Golden Ball award but is facing stiffer competition from PSG striker Ibrahimovic who has won the award six times.
Swedish-born Ghanaian Robin Quaison has also been nominated for the discovery of the season award.
English defender Anita Asante who is of Ghanaian descent has also been nominated for the Women’s Player of the Year award.

This guy is competing with and being mentioned in the same breath as Ibra and yet he is not getting any respect from Ghana fans and Coaches. Sweden just came from behind 4-0 and tied Germany in the EUROS qualifying and yet the Swedish league where most of these Swedish players are groomed gets no respect.
Waris is ready to be playing more minutes than Coach Appiah is giving him. He deserves at least more than Jordan Ayew was getting, including starting some games.
Waris started playing his soccer in Ghana so why does the fact that he is playing in Sweden all of a sudden making him less of a player? If he is signed by Arsenal or Real Madrid does that all of a sudden make him a different player? The guy is doing a marvelous job right now.
