Ghana striker Majeed Waris' proposed move to French side Lille collapses

Published on: 30 August 2014

French side Lille will not be signing Ghanaian attacker Majeed Waris from Spartak Moscow after talks broke down over terms for a loan move for the Black Stars player, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal.

The player’s agent had been in France today to try and close the deal and had already agreed personal terms with Les Dogues.

But the Russian side Spartak Moscow have decided to pull the plug on the deal after they failed to secure the target they wanted on loan to cover the departure of Majeed Waris.

Lille and Spartak were close to a €4m deal for the player which would have then paved the way for Salomon Kalou’s departure.

The Ivorian’s future may now take another twist.

Sources tell us that Majeed Waris “really wanted to join Lille” but he understands that this will not be happening this transfer window.

With the transfer window scheduled to close by Monday only a firm offer from the French side can force the Russian club to release the Ghana striker by the deadline.
