Black Stars striker Abdul Majeed Waris was in action for Russian giants Spartak Moscow who exited the Uefa Europa League after suffering a 4-2 defeat against St Gallen on Thursday.
The 21-year-old made a return from the treatment room three weeks ago but had not seen action due to match fitness concerns.
However on Thursday, Spartak Moscow manager Valeri Karpin handed him a starting spot using him on the right flank after display blistering pace and strong energy at training.
Spartak, who managed a 1-1 stalemate in the first-leg last week needed an outright victory to seal their place in the group stages but the opposition proved too strong.
Waris came close to doubling the home side’s lead in the 8th minute but his audacious effort skinned off the roof of the net after he had gone past a marker on the right wing.
Despite scoring first, Gallen fought back strongly to snap victory from under the nose of the Russians on home turf.
