Ghana striker Majeed Waris named 37th best striker for 2012 by IFFHS

Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has been named the 37th Most effective Top Division Goal Scorer by the IFFHS.

The 20-year-old scored 23 goals for his former side BK Hacken in the Swedish top-flight last term.

Despite his rich scoring form, he was excluded from Ghana’s squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Waris is ranked above Napoli’s Edison Cavani, Antonio Di Natale, Papis Demba Cisse, Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema.

Argentina and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi was the most successful top division goal scorer with 50 goals ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics determines the winner annually from the 60 strongest leagues of the previous year.

Only those players who have scored at least 20 goals in the 60 strongest leagues are taken into consideration.

The number of goals they scored is divided by the number of league appearances.

This means Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan who has scored more than 30 goals in the United Arab Emirates for Al Ain was overlooked.

Well done waris, Ghana will miss you at the afcon. If something happens to gyan or Ghana needs to change he game in a match you are a good option! Keeping pushing!

  3. Dr Who says:

Yet the 37th best striker wasnt able to make the provisional squad of GH.Infact AA strikers are suppose to bang in the goals waa waa at South Africa.Else…..

  4. Coconutman says:

Look at the picture Waris is carrying the proof why he belongs on the Ghana Black Stars AFCON squad. What a shame that merit does not count in selecting the best team to represent Ghana? What a shame! The only striker above Waris in my opinion on the Black Stars in Gyan and nobody else.
