Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has been named the 37th Most effective Top Division Goal Scorer by the IFFHS.

The 20-year-old scored 23 goals for his former side BK Hacken in the Swedish top-flight last term.

Despite his rich scoring form, he was excluded from Ghana’s squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Waris is ranked above Napoli's Edison Cavani, Antonio Di Natale, Papis Demba Cisse, Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema.

Argentina and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi was the most successful top division goal scorer with 50 goals ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics determines the winner annually from the 60 strongest leagues of the previous year.

Only those players who have scored at least 20 goals in the 60 strongest leagues are taken into consideration.

The number of goals they scored is divided by the number of league appearances.

This means Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan who has scored more than 30 goals in the United Arab Emirates for Al Ain was overlooked.
