Video: Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan fires Al Ain to important win

Published on: 17 March 2012

Asamoah Gyan’s penalty conversion in the 56th minute against Al Ahli helped Al Ain take a firm grip of the top position in the Etisalat Pro League.

In a late game played on Friday, Al Ain extended their lead to seven points after Al Nasr lost earlier in the evening to Dubai.

Al Ain now have 36 points from 15 games while Al Jazira are second with 29 and Al Ahli, after this loss, remain in 9th place with 17 points.

The Ghana star earned his team a penalty when he ran down the left and flicked the ball square but it hit rival defender Ali Hussain’s hand and the referee pointed to the spot despite protests from the Ahli players.

Gyan sent Ahli goalkeeper Yousef Abdullah the wrong way to score off the penalty in the 56th minute for what turned out to be the match-winner.
