Assaulted: German newspaper Bild has reported Kevin-Prince Boateng was attacked in Germany

Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng suffered some injuries after being physically attacked on the streets in Germany on Christmas Day following an altercation in Kaarst which has sparked a police investigation.

Police near Düsseldorf confirmed to the local press, the Rheinische Post, that a 26-year-old man involved was Schalke’s Boateng.

‘On Wednesday, 25.12.2013, at around 12:45, an incident of physical assault took place in Kaarst.

A 26-year-old man, a resident of Meerbusch, was physically attacked on the street by a currently unidentified man,’ a police statement printed on dw.de said.

The midfielder was said to be ‘mildly injured’.

It was reported that Boateng returned home after the incident before calling police.

‘There are indications that the motive for the crime is connected to the personal affairs of the 26-year-old,’ the police statement said.

‘The man was mildly injured. Criminal investigators have begun their work.’

Bild has reported Boateng had visited his son at his ex-wife’s house on Christmas Day, was hit once and fell onto a vase.

The paper’s website said he checked himself into hospital with bruised ribs, neck and back.

After posting an image with family on Christmas Eve the only Twitter activity on Boateng’s official profile has been a photo of a Rolex watch with the comment, ‘It’s TIME.’

Boateng is not due to represent Schalke in the Bundesliga until January 26 when they play Hamburg away. He is also due to play Real Madrid in February during the knockout phase of the Champions League and for the Ghana national team at the 2014 World Cup.

Despite being born in Berlin and playing for Germany at every age level, he’s only played senior international football for Ghana, who were draw with Germany, Portugal and USA in group G for the tournament in Brazil.

Do you suspect foul play ahead of Ghana-Germany clash at the 2014 World Cup? Or do you think it is a domestic incident involving his ex-wife? Do you think Boateng should leave Germany before the World Cup to save his own life? Make your views known in the box below

  6. Tanko says:

Did we forget what happened in 2010? KPB crushed with Ballack just before the 2010 WC in SA. It’s a retaliation in process. Let’s just pray nothing serious happened

  7. Mumbi says:

Thieves, so even KPB whom u stole from Germany has now coped your drunkard ways. Germany will smash u hands down without a stolen traitor. Stop your fucking mind games, stupid idiots!

  8. Pinkus says:

Fa fa fa foul! This is indeed foul play. The most dominant talk on German street is that Kevin is planning to punish the Germans for ignoring him in the up-coming world cup. Today Kevin is to Germany what Saurez is to Ghana. He must be careful even on the playing field. There will several attempts to injure him before the world cup.

This is a ploy to put fear into him. But it could also be a blessing for Ghana as it can ginger Kevin to go extra mile during the world cup if he gets there. I wish him the best.

  9. JOE says:

I suspect the ex-wife’s boy friend. Anyway Ghana can progress without kpb but so sad to hear dat. @mumbi i dn’t begrudge u lol u are bitter bcos 1) U wish u are a Ghanaian. 2) Ur country didn’t qualify 4 de wc so u are full of bitterness 4 Ghanaians.3) If u dn’t pray 4 forgiveness U’ll die b4 ur time 4 clasifying God’s image as idiots. May God forgive u as we approach the new year. Let those who hv ears listen to wht de Holy spirit says.
