Ghana finished top of Group B of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday night to seal a quarter-final showdown with Cape Verde.

The Black Stars’ 3-0 victory over the Menas sealed their place on top of the group with seven points and a place in the last eight of the competition in South Africa.

Domestic media in Ghana were calling for Gyan to be dropped after a slow start to the tournament, but the Black Stars captain opened the scoring within five minutes.

The Al Ain forward found Christian Atsu to double Ghana’s lead and immediately after the interval his header was parried by keeper Daouda Kassaly, allowing John Boye to tap-in.

The win means the Black Stars will face the second-placed team in Group A Cape Verde on Saturday in Port Elizabeth.

Ghana will have the advantage against Cape Verde as they already feel settled in Ocean City.

The Black Stars last met Cape Verde in a friendly in Portugal in just two months ago and the Ghanaians triumphed 1-0 thanks to a Mubarak Wakaso goal.

I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE CAPEVERDEANS, NOR DID I WATCH ANY OF THEIR GAMES. MY ONLY ADVICE.
AA SHOULD SIT DOWN WITH HIS TECH PPL AND WATCH ALL 3 OF CAPE VERDE’S GAMES IN THIS TOURNEY. ESP, THE CAPEVERDE VS ANGOLA GAME.
THEY CAN USE THAT TO PREPARE ADEQUATELY FOR THE CAPEVERDEANS….
KASA, BADU, ATSU MUST ALL BE ABLE TO TAKE FREE KICKS AND CORNER KICKS.
aa, wat is the point of keeping your MVP PLAYERS LIKE BADU, VORSAH, KASA, GYAN STILL IN THIS GAME? ARE U CRAZY…?
SUB THEM. U ARE 3 NIL UP. GIVE THEM TIME TO REST FOR THE NEXT GAME AHEAD. NIPA Y3 BAD. YOUR OPPONENTS MAY WANT TO INJURE YOUR BEST
    PLAYERS.
WE NEED THE PLAYERS TO BE MORE DISCIPLINED IN THEIR PLAY AND TACKLES. LESS FOUL$, MORE SHOT$ ON GOAL.
TIGHTEN UP THE DEFENCE….TIGHTEN UP THE DEFENCE…..TIGHTEN UP THE DEFENCE…..
STRIKERS/attackers win you a match, DEFENDERS win you a tournament.
AA MUST STRIVE FOR PERFECTION!. STRIVE FOR PERFECTION!

  2. Viper says:

At this stage you will need more than scintillating skills, this is where discipline and determination take effect, its all about those who want it the most, stupid yellow cards, unnecessary tackles, descent will be teams even the slittiest mistake you make can spell elimination for the team, the defense needs to be disciplined,no silly back passes if in doubt, kick the ball anywhere.

  3. Viper says:

Cape Verde are a decent team, they have one or two players who can dribble 3 or 4 players easily,we have to be careful with that.WE CAN’T compete with them with the long balls, their defender Neves will snuff it out,we have to keep the ball on the floor and pass our way through, patient football.Their attackers are as tricky as the Congolese and how did we fair with the Congolese? not good, their attackers are very good and this goes to our defense, they have been jittery along with the goalkeeper, with the exception of Harrison Afful.Boye,Vorsah and Pantsil need to cut their nervousness and believe in themselves, they are far too experienced for that.

  4. Viper says:

..and whilst we are at it, they don’t need to spend more time practising goal celebration,if you score five goals, just dance some azonto,no need to have five different dance moves for each goal. ahba.

  5. Blakroze GH says:

@CONGOMAN, please did that useless minnow called dr congo qualify? You he-goat

  6. Troy says:

@Blackrose, Lol hehehe that congo man disappeared in thin Air. He will change his name now :) its nice Hating the Ghana national Team cos at the end you’ll be put to shame. By now they should know Ghana always get past the group stages no matter who they are drawn with.

  7. I do not see the reason why people who love beautiful football criticized Derek Boateng. U could see that in the first half, the Nigerians were havin most of the possesion but Derek Boateng came and our game suddenly change, though he commit one or two errors but still he was superb. His passing, everyfin was perfect on the day. Zambians, we are waiting.

  8. kwame pito says:

its fuunny how unknown ppl show up during games against Ghana only to Vanish as soon as their team get wallaoped. CONGOMAN! WHERE ARE YOUUUUU!
