Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi says the nation is not in the ‘reckoning’ to host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana is reported to be one of the alternatives for CAF to stand-in as hosts for next year’s event if Morocco fails to assume its original responsibility.

The North African state has asked CAF to postpone its hosting of the tournament next January due to the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus.

But the continental football governing body believes Morocco’s excuse is not strong enough to persuade it’s to postpone its tournament and are already looking at alternative options – of which Ghana has been reported as one.

But Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi who also serves on the CAF Executive Committee confirmed the nation is not in the running to stand in as hosts for the 2015 AFCON.

“Ghana has not put together a bid to host AFCON 2015 so Ghana is not in reckoning at all to host the competition,” Nyantakyi told a press conference on Friday.

The Ghanaian populace is sharply divided on whether it will be prudent to host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as against other competing priorities especially with the outbreak of the Ebola virus.

Ghana has put in its bid to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

CAF has meanwhile given Morocco an ultimatum which expires by the end of Saturday to confirm its preparedness to host the tournament at the originally scheduled dates.
