Ghana President John Mahama is backing the Black Stars to excel at the 2014 World Cup despite admitting to the herculean task following Friday’s draw.

The Black Stars have been drawn in a tough group for next year’s grand event in Brazil alongside European giants Germany and Portugal.

Ghana will also face 2013 Gold Cup champions USA in Group G.

The Black Stars are believed to be facing the most fiercest campaign ever at the finals due to the draw following progressive stints in 2006 and 2010 in Germany and South Africa respectively.

Many pundits have already predicted the fall of Ghana after the group stage in favour of Germany and Portugal.

But President Mahama who is the number one supporter of the Black Stars believes otherwise even though admitting to the difficult task at hand.

“It took everybody by surprise and indeed I have been watching CNN and they described it as the Group of Death because all the countries there are tough,” President Mahama said.

“Germany and Portugal’s pedigree in football are known by all and even though we have dominated the USA in the past, they play very good soccer.

“I don’t think we should be deterred because they are also thinking about us just as we are doing and so it’s anybody’s game.

“We have the materials; we have the players to do the job.”

Ghana will open its campaign in Brazil against USA on June 16, play Germany before wrapping up the round against Portugal.
