Ghana Premier League goal king Baffour to sign for Sundowns

Posted On Friday, 8th June 2012

Emmanuel Baffour will join Mamelodi Sundowns

Ghana Premier League side New Edubiase United have reached a deal with Sundowns over the transfer of striker Emmanuel Baffour.

The 2011/2012 goal king with 21 goals will undergo medical next week to firm up a three-year deal.

It is reported that Sundowns will pay more than US$ 800,000 for his services.

Baffour came close to signing for Turkish side Antalyaspor after passing a medical but both clubs could not reach a deal.

The 23-year-old scored in New Edubiase’s 3-0 win over Danbort FC to advance to the MTN Ghana FA Cup on Friday afternoon.

“Sundowns were in Kumasi to watch him against Kotoko and they approached us for his signature,” Edubiase General Manager Abu Joe Salam told MTNFootball.com

“Their offer and terms of payment is good so we have accepted it. It is now left for the player to undergo the medical.”

Sundowns finished fourth in the just ended ABSA Premiership League in South Africa.

  4. Kojo says:

This s not good at all ahole goal king to go for just $800.000 God

  5. kwame-Blazefame says:

I guess the GL has no class and their sponsorship is no close to helping teams with enough money to keep their players. I guess even if he made 1/4 of this money playing for Edubiase, it would ve been better to stay in Gh than south African league, their league is reach becuz they are able to attract foreign signature but then again look at their national team, sucks. Baffour going to south africa ii be a mistake you ii regret in the future if all is not well- calls from blackstar will be once in a blue moon, maybe one or two every yr and this is only if your team plays in CAF Champs league-ask Afful. Developing your game in GH for another yr or so could have earned you a contract in europe. What happen to the Bolton and Wigan rumors? …..just my opinon, am no coach.

  6. kofi says:

    Oh!! This boy paaa….south africa

  7. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

baffour dont mind these fools. sundowns is better. they have more epl influence and more epl/euROPEAN SCOUTS GO THERE THAN N AFRICA. THEY WILL TREAT U WELL, LIKE THE PROFESSIONAL U ARE. I WOULD HAVE WISHED THAT HE BAFFOUR COULD HAVE PARTICIPATED/PLAYED FOR KOTOKO IN THE CAF CHAMPS LEAGUE, BUT ITS ALL GOOD. GOING TO SUNDOWNS WILL EXPOSE HIM TO TOP FLIGHT, PROFESSIONAL SOCCER AND HOW PLAYERS PREPARE FOR BIG GAMES. HE WILL ALSO ATTRACT THE EYE OF TOP INTERNATIONAL SCOUTS. PLUS HE WILL BE PLAYING IN AFRICA. HE IS BETTER OFF THERE THAN GOING TO N AFRICA OR TURKEY! IF HE GOES TO SUNDOWNS AND HE PRODUCES, HE WILL BE IN EUROPE IN NO TIME. LOOK AT THE PLAYERS WHO HAVE GONE TO N AFRICA AND ARE STILL EITHER PLAYING OR HAVE RETURNED HOME? THE EGYPTIANS WILL SUCK U DRY N LEAVE U. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME U HEARD OF A GH PLAYER GETTING SIGNED BY A EUROPEAN CLUB FROM EGYPT? INTERNATIONAL SCOUTS WILL GO TO S AFRICA BECOS OF THE PEACE N DEVELOPMENT, THAN GOING TO EGYPT OR ANY WHERE IN N AFRICA. BAFF, JUST GO N CONCENTRATE ON UR BALL. DONT DO MBAA S3M AT ALL…..IF U WANT WOMEN, JUST COME TO GH…MUAHAHAHAAAA. U CAN BE THE BEST STRIKER GH HAS EVER PRODUCED IF U KEEP U ARE HUMBLE, PRAY AND WORK HARD

  8. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

HW3, GO ON SUNDOWNS WEBSITE. THEY WERE ALREADY LOOKING FOR HIM BEFORE BAFF SIGNED. HE WILL ENJOY S AFRICA, UNLIKE SOME RACIST EGYPT OR TURKEY….MONEY IS MAN MADE. ITS NOT THE BE ALL N END ALL…..
Sundowns has Ubuntu principles and values, kaboYellow Black Stars!

  9. Wow says:

About the right level for an average player! $800k for a player that has a terrible first touch and can’t pass is not bad!

  10. enock peprah says:

    @wow
you are a fool for saying that

    • Wow says:

The GPL is a semi-pro league with useless defenders and lack of tactical structure – a player who scores 20+ goals in a season should score about 5 in a low quality league like South Africa. It’s a good league for him to go to as he is about 28 years now so his legs will start to run out in 4 years so planning a long progressive career in Europe is a waste of time – chop the 1st world Africans money now

  11. fumani says:

Sundowns is the 1st team in africa to play against barca….and our Coach played for barca and he was barcas assistant coach! Well TP mazembe are complaining coz Kalaba wanna leave em for Downs…I’m not surprised we also have monthly awards…Downs have 5 PSL titles Pirates 4 Chiefs 2

  12. SIMON BAADGHD says:

USELESS PLAYER, CAN GO WHERE HE WANTS TO GO. NO BRAINS TO THINK, FOOTBALL IS NOT MONEY ALONE BUT HOW TO BE THE BEST TO EARN MORE NOT HOW TO CLOSE YOUR CARRIER.

  13. KT says:

Good bye. Thats the end of your career.

  14. Zolliker says:

Viel Glück in Südafrica anstelle in Europa!

  15. Maximus says:

To share an idea, that doesn’t means u should insult the person!

  16. SKILFUL says:

1 player 2day here, moro there, why? it cost u a place in de blackstars nd u cant get ur head straight…..go nd rot

  17. artus says:

so his this the fees for a top strike like emmanuel baffour 421,730

  18. Zolliker / Nana Boatemaa Switzerland says:

We have pursued Mr. Baffour since October,2011 in his career
Were also with the Presidenten of New Edubiase Abdul Salam Yakubu and Alex Ackumey in contact.
We were alwaysith Udinese in Italy, and Grasshopper Zürich in Switzerland in contact.
On the 5th of May,2012 we have made to the FC New Edubiase a concrete offer über 1,1millions euros, from Udinese in Italy. One must fancy this Emmanuel Baffour could have changed to Udinese in Italy, then still today Baffour would be an international.
Same passed in August 2011 with Mr. Poku where today with Ashanti Gold plays, also man Poku had offer of Udinese in Italy.
    Ask Mr. Poku.
Mr. Baffour NEVER AGAIN becomes a national team.
Ask Mr. Yakubu or Mr. Ackemey.
A lot of luck in Südafrica Mr. Baffour, instead of in Europe with Udinese!
