Ghana to play hosts Canada in FIFA U20 Women's World Cup opener
Ghana will play hosts Canada in the 2014 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup opener on 5 August at Toronto’s National Stadium.
The Black Princesses have won just one match in two World Cup appearances but have never progressed from the Group stage.
Canada have qualified for all but one of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup’s previous six editions.
The Canucks have failed to make it past the group phase in any of their three most recent appearances, and in 2010 did not even make it to the finals at all.
The Princesses will also host former champions Korea Republic on 8 August in a repeat of their 2008 Group clash where they lost 4-2 to the Asians.
Ghana’s final Group A match will be against Finland which will be played in the city of Moncton.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which is returning to the nation that hosted its inaugural edition in 2002, will be played in four venues – Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal and Toronto – between 5 and 24 August 2014.
