Ghana FA officials are planning to sack coach Kwesi Appiah by tomorrow if the Black Stars fail to beat Togo in their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Lome, according to a report by local radio station.
According to the report by Citi FM, the Ghanaian trainer will be booted out if the Black Stars fail to subdue the Hawks in their Group G match to played in Lome.
The radio station claims that they have spoken with officials of the GFA who say they are bent on sacking Appiah whose future has been hanging in a balance since the World Cup.
Ghana must win against Togo to maintain any control of their AFCON 2015 qualifying group, following a poor showing at the weekend against Uganda in Kumasi.
The public approval ratings of the Ghana coach is low after what some sports analysts described as “high profile†failures in the last African Cup and at the world cup in Brazil.
This led to swift moves by the Ghana FA to scout for a technical adviser to assist the “embattled†Appiah and with Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac arriving in Ghana, the speculation
Monday night saw the touchdown of the hugely popular Milovan Rajevac, who led the team to its highest international football achievement in the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup.
The presence of Milovan has the backing of some key GFA officials who were looking to appoint him as the technical adviser but could quickly be transmuted into the permanent coach if things fall apart in Lome.
Appiah is aware of these goings-on, but his remarkable calmness stems from the fact that he has also lost confidence in the trust of his employers, who he feels have not done enough to hold the team together.
Appiah has a running two year contract with the Ghana Football Association, which was agreed on some time before the World Cup.
Should the former Ghana captain be axed, the GFA will have to pay a hefty severance package which the federation is ready to pay to appease the local coach who also has the backing of some Ghanaians who are keen on just having a native in charge of the national team.
