Ghana starting line-up unchanged for Cape Verde, Wakaso benched

Published on: 02 February 2013

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has named an unchanged starting line-up to face Cape Verde on Saturday despite the injury recovery of key players Mubarak Wakaso and Anthony Annan.

The Black Stars trainer has kept faith with the same starting line-up that thrashed Niger 3-0 in their last Monday, meaning Christian Atsu and Rabiu Mohammed will start ahead of Wakaso and Annan respectively.

The decision by the coach means that he will stick with the same formation against Cape Verde as they are physically tough as the Nigeriens.

Ghana will rely on the dexterity of Atsu and Kwadwo Asamoah to unlock the tough defence of the Blue Sharks with the latter playing behind lone striker Asamoah Gyan.

Atsu has been maintained in the starting line-up following his excellent showing in the match against Niger which earned him the man-of-the-match award.

England based speedster Albert Adomah will continue to play on the right wing with Agyemang Badu partnering Mohammed to provide the steel in midfield.

Towering Isaac Vorsah and John Boye will stay at the heart of the central defence to provide cover for goalkeeper Fatau Dauda while stopping dangerous Cape Verde striker Platini.

John Paintsil and Harrison Afful will play at the right back and left back respectively.

The starting line-up will give Ghana coach the chance to also make strong changes as Wakaso, Annan, Derek Boateng and Jonathan Mensah will provide strong options on the bench.

Ghana starting line-up against Cape Verde:

Fatau Dauda, John Paintsil, Harrison Afful, John Boye, Isaac Vorsah, Rabiu Mohammed, Albert Adomah, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah, Christian Atsu.
