Andre Ayew was dropped from Ghana's squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
The dust may have settled on the issue and the 23 players selected playing in the tournament for Ghana, but former Ghana football chief, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe believes the national team are missing the influence of playmaker Andre Dede Ayew at the 2013 Cup of Africa Nations.
Nyaho, renowned for his strict disciplinary standards, says the importance of a player like Dede Ayew cannot be overridden by the slight excuse that he was late for camp.
“I don’t know what happened between him and the coach but Dede Ayew is a matchmaker and we are feeling his absence. If he had been in the game, our performance would have been far different.”
Dr. Nyaho continued: “We have not seen anybody who is gingering the boys, encouraging them, only Paintsil has tried to do it but he can’t do it well,” Nyaho told 90 minutes exclusively.
The former GFA Chairman then cited the famous Paulo Rossi case of 1982: “To me, Dede is a matchmaker and matchmakers are key members of a team. I am somebody who stresses on discipline but there are certain players you have to deal with differently.
Let me tell the story of Paulo Rossi who came from prison straight to the pitch to help Italy win the World Cup and he was best player and goal king of the tournament.
There was also Wayne Rooney who had a fractured toe before 2006 World Cup but England still put him in the squad,” he said.
“I don’t know what was the problem but I think a special dispensation should have been given in respect of Dede because he is a player who fights for 90 minutes.”

well said Doctor.
No we don’t!! What we certainly don’t miss is his arrogant attitude!!!
When the best Africans are mentioned in France Dede is not mentioned…. He has never been on the Ballon D’Or list and never Fifpro XI why are people acting as if this is a world class player? He is a little above average and if he has accomplished anything it is due to opportunities we gave him!
Are you serious about Dede being an above average player? Hahaha. You must have just arrived on planet earth. Dede is better than 99% of the team our below average coach sent to SA. He is 1000 times commited than the whole team put together(except A Badu of course)Dede is a born leader and so even the coach feels threatened by his presence. The coach only wants to projecthis mediocre players for better contracts like Adoma, Dereck Boateng and co. You can envy Dede but you cant take away his talent.Dede is also trully young unlike this old men parading as young boys.Who God bless……….
Early signs of leadership skills and character has often been received negatively in many organisations in the black society. Go back to your high/sec sch days, whenever one was perceived to take initiative and posess leadership qualities, he/she was called names such as “too known” etc.
This coupled with the history between Abedi and Akwasi has generated the unhealthy relationship between the two.
As much as the nation cannot depend on one player, the nation can also not rely on a coach who will not let go the past.
Dede will be back for the World Cup but i dont know if the Akwasi will be around.
Just my candid opinion.
The Abedi nonsense has no truth to it but, Dede is not needed. He is the one that needs to change and not the coach. You can’t keep changing coaches to accommodate players! If he was so great he would be on the Ballon D’Or list…. His only award, BBC African footballer of the year, Gyan, Essien, Kwadwo have also won and, it was voted for by the fans who voted for him numerous times…
If he can get on the Ballon D’or final 3 list then, he can call himself great if not, he is nothing more than a local hero who wants to be treated as if he is Messi or Ronaldo a level he is not even close to reaching!
Which Kwadwo won what???? Why are you so jealous and bitter Ghanaman! IF this will help you, it was Dede’s father that caused the BBC to establish the BBC African Player of the year award
I am his biggest fan but, some of the defending of him by some is a bit too much!!
His arrogance is more than his talent level! Look at Messi! Nice and humble yet he is the best in the world! Dede is not even half of Messi yet his arrogance is 1000X times more! Why?
nO Wonder they gave it to Andre when he least deserve. Remember Kwadwo won CAF Best young player. Now that was real Official Accolade, not the BBC one when biased fans vote numerous times.
For example, this is a player who has scored 4 goals in 45 matches for us! Adiyiah has done the same in 17!! Why do people act as if he is some great player! That is a horrible goal scoring rate!
You have not addressed a single item critically.
Adiyiah is a striker, Dede is not.
Abedi nonsense does not?
Suprised.
Thanks for spending time to read anyway.
Dede plays as as an attacker and is not a defensive midfielder… Adiyiah has not started many games as a central striker…
Badu has a better goal scoring rate!!
So, what is the hype all about!! He should get recognized outside of Africa if he is what he claims to be!! I doubt he can!!!
Last year when they put a list of the best Africans in France Belhanda made it and he did not! Why?
Aubemiyang made that list also!!!
My whole point is, he should become a truly world class player if he wants to be above the rules but, right now he is simply a 4 goals every 45 matches attacking player who thinks he deserves to be above the team…
Foolish Ghanaman, that is Adiyiah’s role, to score goals. Dede is a midfielder, so you don’t compare the two because they are non-comparable. How do you even compare a player in the French league 1 to someone playing in some corner in Ukraine, where he is a bench warmer?
Modern …. rest your case,
The medium gives room for people to express their view so have mercy on Ghanaman okay?….my younger brother thinks exactly the same way Ghanaman does so i have to accept his view with no animosity. This is democracy in action – its just his opinion.
By the way, He is currently the most decorated active black stars player – check the records –
Senior Team – bronze 2008, silver 2010, secured out place in the quater final of the most recent world cup and just like his father did in 92, missed out on yellow card and we didnt make it in the game without him.
Junior Team – Gold medalist – africa and World and Exceptional captain and source of inspiration .
Modern…tell Gahnaman to name a player in teh current squad with such achievements !
The docor has said it all, guys please ignore that attention seeker
Tell the Doctor to concentrate on his profession and stop prescribing pain medications that is killing patients. My Aunt just died last week from a prescribed pain killer “Diclonova” and “Quintor” that was prescibe to her from his hospital. No wonder he thinks Andre Ayew arrogance is what we need.
For once, I have to agree with Nyaho-Tamakloe. It is true the act was for disciplinary reasons and for that I commend the coach. However, we cannot gloss over the fact that Dede is a player lots of teams would not treat and give a raw deal as was observed. I am sure our opponents were very happy when he was axed from the team. The painfull Truth, though, is that we do need him and his services. You should see how he takes commanding roles when it comes to motivating the team on the pitch. He stops his act only when the final whistle goes.
Yet still, AA needs his team and to achieve that, he must demonstrate a strong shift towards discipline. Unfortunately Ayew is a good sacrificial lamb for the obvious way forward. He now has a team that lacks the quality Nyaho is looking for, but disciplined enough to do what the coach asks them to do. They simply need to go hungry enough and want this real bad. Add that to the discipline and they could make it happen.
What raw deal! He was asked to show up to camp and he refused!! If you refuse to go to work what happens to you??
Thanks!! is it that we lack logic in thinking coz the coach is one of our own loco???even if the coach fails to go all the way to the finals we still have to support him !!Ayew and Marseille, plus Abedi andAnigo combined to cause all this!!he got the so called hurt when the team was on break!!and no one was training!!
Ghanaman, I think you either have to change your name or live up to it. I do understand he didn’t show up on time which was why he lost his place. Get into a Ghanaman spheres then assess the situation, or like I said change your pen name and fortify your stance.
WHY ARE GHANAIANS UNGRATEFUL TO THEMSELVES.IF BY THIS TIME WE CANNOT APPRECIATE OUR PLAYERS WHO FIGHT SOO HARD ON THE FIELD EVEN DURING PAIN BARRIERS.
WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A SELFLESS AND DETERMINED PLAYER WHO HAS SHOWN QUALITY IN HIS PLAY AND LEADERSHIP.JUST TAKE YOUR MEMORY BACK AND SEE WHAT THIS YOUNG CHAMP DID IN U-20 TOURNAMENT BOTH AFRICA AND WORLD CUP.TELL ME WHICH PLAYER IN GHANA HERE WORE THE CAPTAIN BAND TO ACHIEVE SUCH TROPHIES FOR THE NATION.DEDE QUALITIES CANNOT BE COMPARED TO ANY PLAYER IN GHANA HERE.IF A PLAYER DOES NOT WIN BALLON D’OR DOESNT MEAN HE IS NOT A GOOD PLAYER.INDEED WE LACK CREATIVITY IN THE SQUAD NOW AND OUR ATTACKING OPTION HAS GONE DEAD.
The only difference between Mamadou Gaye and Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is that, they are from different countries. While we are moving forward, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is pulling us back. Are supposed to be crying over spilt milk? Is Dede the only player in Ghana? haba!!
I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME I AGREE WITH DR. TAMAKLOE!!!@ GHANAMAN: YOU ARE SOOOOOO FULL OF IT! YOU ARE SUCH A BLIND ARGUER AND FILLED WITH HATE AGAINST THE YOUNG CHAMPION CALLED DEDE. WHAT THE DR. IS SAYING IS THAT THE COACH HAS FAILED TO MANAGE THE EGOS OF THE TEAM AND THAT HAS CAUSED THE TEAM OF A PLAY MAKER IN THE CALIBER OF DEDE. WHICH IS VERY TRUE TO ITS CORE. NOW, YOU! WHAT IS YOUR ARGUMENT?
Dede is not a play maker! He has 2 assist at his club!
If you want a play maker that would be Iniesta!!!
Wow, Dr. This one is a hard truth.
Doctor is empty noise , why look back , the boys are in the middle of a tournament , ,this is a spilled milk and you DHS leave it alone, doctor DHS grow up , is about time
kwadjo asamoah is suppose to be a supporting striker, during the the world cup, the previous cup of nations, lots qualifying matches and friendlies,he just scored his first with the black stars ,how about that,
Kwadwo Asamoah has played as a defensive midfielder or central midfielder. Either way he plays for Juventus one of the biggest clubs in the world on par with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United. Don’t even compare!!!
Nyaho is just seeking attention. How can a true disciplitarian be selective. No player is ‘bigger‘ than the other. This is what caused our down fall during the era of Abedi when our coaches & FA treated him like a god.currently,we have gone past that and that is why we were able to qualify for 2006 and 2010 WC.Show me a team with discipline and I will show you a successful team.In any case,Dede played in AFCON 2008,2010 and 2012,did we win the cup?
The fact that he’s up for discussion makes him worthy to be in the tournament. He’s not great yet, but he will get there for sure.. It’s not always how great someone is in order to perform in a tournament. KPB was an “OK” player but when surrounded by other good players, he’s almost great.. Andre has a Lion heart and he takes a different approach to the game no matter what condition he’s in..
Well Said !
@Godfather,Dede did not contribute anything in our bronze winning in 2008.Whatever Dede has won on the field of play,Badu has won too.
No disrepect to Badu – Dede won as a captain.
Twice nominated for CAF african player of the year.
Twice nominated for BBC african player of the year.
Won BBC african player of the year – the only award Issah Hayatou has no influence on.
Call a spade a spade.
If you dislike my father from years ago, i will be wathcful of you and develop a defense mechanism to prove my worth beyond the name that i bear by virtue of lineage.
And if i wak into a team and big boys think i have to tie theri laces because i am a teenager then u might as well go kick rocks cos I KNOW BETTER !
SMH,dede has won the french league and the bbc african player, has Badu won that as well?
Dede was also born in Europe and fast tracked to many things a player Born in Africa would not get… Looking at where Badu started he has accomplished more!!!
By this i mean Dede’s dad was an OM legend so, he went straight to one of the best academies in the world and, even with the Black Stars we called him when he was warming the bench in the 2nd division. Badu has worked for every single thing he has the hard way!!
@ ghanaman u r a hater and a lier Dede has more than 2 assists this season just be honest and admit u hate and envy him and at least we’ll respect u for being honest.
Fine 3 assists!!

Compare that to Iniesta’s 12 assists at a higher level!!
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/17566/andr%C3%A9s-luj%C3%A1n-iniesta?cc=5901
Dede is a very good player but, when you mix in his attitude and other factors I can see why he was not picked…
