Ghana midfielder Owusu-Abeyie joins Panathinaikos on loan

Posted On Thursday, 14th July 2011

Ghana winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie has joined Greek giants Panathinaikos on a season long deal from Qatari side Al Sadd, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The 25-year-old former Arsenal youngster agreed a move to the Athens-based who have an option to buy him on a permanent basis.

Al Sadd will receive 500,000 euros for the loan of the player while Abeyie will be paid 400, 000 euros for the year.

Owusu-Abeyie quit Spanish side La Liga Malaga before the end of last season for non-payment of salaries.

The former Dutch youth international made 16 appearances and scored three goals.

The dribbling wizard has played for Ajax, Arsenal, Spartak Moscow, Celta Vigo, Birmingham, Cardiff and Portsmouth.

An impressive display could chart his way back into the Ghana squad.

Owusu-Abeyie has not played for the Black Stars since the international friendly against Saudi Arabia in November last year.

Not a good move. The won’t give him the room to operate here with their selfish games. Must be wary of the Greek media who can make or unmake him.But will meet good and world class players like Djibril Cisse of the French national team.

  2. cape coast;;;;;;;;;;; says:

stupid guy to say it is a bad move,do u have players of his class in your national team

    • JERRO,GREECE says:

@ CAPE COAST OR COMEDIAN OR WHATEVER The biggest fool you are is not asking the reason for calling the move a bad move.In calling this a bad move, did you hear me say Quincy was not a world class player?i only forewarned him to be wary of the Greek media and the players. they may choose to deprive him of the ball during play to make him look like a flop. No black player except cisse have ever confidently made their move in a club like panathinakos work.Ask Emmanuel olisadebe, Derrick Boateng, Nasif Morris and more recently Sidney GOvou have tasted this medicine. I will be here to watch your comments when it starts with my man Abeyie. This are people who will use you for a while and dump you for their own.

  3. Mikki says:

@jerro Djibril had jst mvd 2 italy. I thnk it is a gud mv,jst has 2 get enaf playn time nd wil come bk in2 d Stars. Wish u al d best Quincy.

    • JERRO,GREECE says:

@ kiki and mikki, you are absolutely right. Djibril has left for Lazio and this where i wish he was around. He makes the us proud with is ability score with his sheer speed and power.Sidney has left for Evian in France after receiving a drubbing from the Greek press.

  4. boss says:

djib has left for lazio but its still a decent enough move.Dude is still young, hopefully by 28 he’ll have sorted himself out so he can impact gh football

  5. pee says:

only fools and those who dosent know anything in football will downpress quincy ,but i bet u this guy is the best every dribbler in blk stars but cuz of nokofiao we rejected him

  6. Hdb says:

Quincy îs the best winger afta ayew

  7. Peedi Crack says:

Pee u are absolutely right!!!…this guy got the dribbling skills and the speed/pace on the wings and because of “something small man go chop” he doesnt get a call up cus he is not one of those players who will pay to play or pay to get a call-up….abeyie is always available but the coach keeps on calling up opoku agyeman????….we all know this shit dont make no sense….opoku agyeman is no where near abeyie’s level, as a winger or midfielfder, period!!!…god luck to him at Pana, hopefully he gets a call up for the Ghana-Naija friendly!!

  8. aboagye says:

hi guyz, listen been in the curent black stars depends on merit, quincy is not discipline for that matter, unless he changes his attitude, footabll is not about been the best player nor a dribbler, discipline is the key.check his records with coaches and you will know what am talking about. even the world best player, messi is discipline and God will lift him high.

stop the non sense clubbings and concentrate quincy, period

  9. Danny Alvez says:

thats a good a move,he will also get a chance to play in the champions league

  10. nikorico says:

why doesn’t panathinaikos go for a decent striker right now. Our midfield is solid with Karagounis, Katsouranis, Ninis, Leto, etc. OUr defense is experienced and well rounded, but since Cisse left we need that extra boost of critical scoring. Just shouting names here but maybe Defoe, Kalou, Berbatov, Gilardino…i’m jiving but somebody good? I dunno we need some striker.
