South African side SuperSport are waiting to hear the extent of their Ghanaian midfielder Edwin Gyimahââ¬â¢s ankle injury, but it is feared that he could miss this yearââ¬â¢s World Cup in Brazil.
The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has been a fine performer for SuperSport over the last 18 months, claiming their Player of the Season award last term.
Gyimah has since broken into Ghanaââ¬â¢s national team, and is a candidate for Akwasi Appiahââ¬â¢s squad for the 2014 World Cup.
However, the versatile defender now faces a worrying wait as he sees specialists about the ankle injury that forced him off in the 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates, and it could be that he requires an operation.
Speaking to the Siya crew, the clubââ¬â¢s CEO, Stan Matthews, said, ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢re holding thumbs for him and hope that everything will be ok so that he can be back for us before the end of the season and in time for the World Cup with Ghana.ââ¬
Should Gyimah need an operation on his ankle then it could possibly rule him out for the rest of the season, and put a big dent in his World Cup dreams.
The Ghanaian international has been a dominating presence in Matsatsantsa's midfield since joining the club in 2011, and understandably United may need cover if he is ruled out with a long-term injury.
If Gyimah was to be ruled out, SuperSport may be feeling a bit thin in the centre of the park as they are also without George Maluleka and Krut Lentjies who moved to Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United respectively.
