Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng's proposed move to Fulham failed to materialize after the transfer window in England closed on Thursday night.
His Ukrainian club Dnipro were unwilling to allow the defensive midfielder to leave despite initiating the process for the transfer to be completed three weeks ago.
Boateng had already undergone a medical at Fulham, who have secured a work permit for him, and talks between the clubs were said to be ongoing before the deadline.
Thursday night's deadline passed without a deal being reached between the two clubs which means Boateng will stay in Ukraine until next season.
A fee of about £2m was mooted to sign a player who cost more than double that when joining Dnipro from Getafe back in 2011.
However things went quiet from Dnipro end even though the Ghanaian has since fallen out of favour and has made only two league starts in the first half of the season.
Martin Jol's interest in the 29-year-old is long established, with the Fulham manager having come close to securing the defensive midfielder on loan last summer.
Boateng, who had enjoyed spells in Greece, Sweden, Israel and Spain before moving to Ukraine.
He is currently with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
