Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng set for Olympiacos medical

Posted On Tuesday, 12th February 2013

Derek Boateng

Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng will undergo a medical this week at Greek giants Olympiacos ahead of a proposed move.

The Dnipro FC player came close to joining Fulham in the January window, but the move collapsed over a contract dispute.

Boateng was unable to secure a release from his contract and had looked to take his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to try and secure his release.

According to Sky Sports News, the 29-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Athens outfit who are keen on signing him.

He is well known in Greece after a successful three-year spell in the top flight having played for Kalamata, Panathinaikos and OFI Crete.

Boateng was a member of the Ghana squad which finished fourth at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

haha same here. I knew he always sucked. Why leave out Afriyie Acquah and take Boateng. I have said it once and I will repeat it, if Ghana wants to win the Afcon or any major tourney we should send our best players:
GK – Kwarasey, Dauda, Daniel Adjei
DF – Boye, Opare, David Addy (not Lee Addy), Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Vorsah
MF – Essien, Agyemang Badu, Wakaso, Frimpong, Afriyie Acquah, Muntari, Andre Dede Ayew (real no. 10 of Ghana), Kwadwo Asamoah,Christian Atsu (brilliant player but needs more work),d Ishmael Yartey, (could be replaced by Prince Boateng if he returns).
FW – Boakye Yiadom, Majeed Waris, Jordan Ayew, Gyan (after his performance over the last two AFCONs, I am beginning to doubt how good he really is, but he could be replaced by Quincy, Acosty, Mahatma Otoo, Frank Acheampong, etc.)
Ghana has soooo many good players, why do we keep taking the likes of Paintsil, Derek Boateng, Rabiu (who was good but not as great), Clottey (every single shot he took was off the target including the penalty), and some others. Ghana needs to win the next Afcon. When Ghana won 4 trophies, Nigeria had just 1 trophy and now they are only 1 trophy behind us. Same with Egypt, when Ghana had four, they also had four, and now they are leading by three. Ghana needs to back up their performance
P.S. Why can’t we take penalties, lol, that is a shame.
