Ghana legend Ibrahim Sunday believes Berekum Chelsea are best placed to win this season’s Caf Champions League.
The dethroned Ghanaian champions faces a daunting task to qualify from group B which comprises of three former winners; Al Ahly, Zamalek and TP Mazembe.
Ghanaian fans have a strong feeling the Berekum-based side could cause an upset after beating Cameroonian powerhouse CotonSports 2-1 at their own turf to advance to the money zone of the continent’s elite inter club competition.
The ex-Ghana international who guided giants Asante Kotoko to clinch the title in 1983 believes the Blues underdog tag will prove the aces for their triumph.
“Look they qualified to this stage on merit and should not be underrated because they are a new team on the block,” Sunday told Accra-based Radio Gold
“At this stage of the competition no one can claim superiority over the other since that could prove disastrous.
“They (Chelsea) have to believe they can do it and that can-do-spirit will see them go far.
“They can go to Zamalek, Alhy and TP Mazembe to grind out results and ensure they pick maximum points at home and then we see how it goes.
“But I have no doubt in my mind that they will make us proud and follow in the footsteps of Kotoko and Hearts who have ruled the continent in the past,”
Chelsea will open their African adventure with a home tie against Egyptian giants Zamalek at the Golden City Park on July 7.
