Former Ghana midfielder Daniel Yeboah claims the standard of the Ghana Premier League has fallen and has put it down to the lack of quality players.

Yeboah was a key performer in the Ghana top-flight six years ago and that earned him a place in the Black Stars set-up under Serb Milovan Rajevac, who fielded him in the 2010 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.

He played for Liberty Professionals, Asante Kotoko and Heart of Lions before leaving for Egyptian side Al Ittihad.

Yeboah is available on a free transfer but says he has been put off to return to the First Capital Plus Premier League because of the “low standard”.

“I still want to play but not to play here (Ghana) because the standard of the game is too low and it will be difficult for me to play,” Yeboah told Joy sports

“The standard has fallen so bad, I watched the Liberty and Hearts game and I was not impressed at all with what I saw.

“For me the league now is lacking those quality players we use to have, you look at Charles Taylor, Stephen Oduro and talk about Liberty the players we had under Jones Attuquayefio and when I went to Kotoko see the players we had under Razak and Hans Dieter Shmidt, players that on any day you will pay money to see but now you can’t say same for the league so for me the standard has fallen to the extent that I would not want to play here again.”
