Ghana goalkeeper Stephen Adams says he cannot be solely blamed for his time wasting theatrics in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Guinea in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The 25-year-old went to ground often in latter stages of the match played at the Tamale Sports Stadium and that drew a lot of criticisms.

Adams has been labeled unprofessional and his antics described as anti-football despite his aim to beat down the clock.

The Aduana Stars shot-stopper said it was the team’s strategy to delay sometime when Guinea were mounting pressure to snatch the equalizer.

"I am sorry for what many fans thought was my personal and unprofessional antics to delay play with more than 20 minutes of play remaining,” Adams said.

“With my maturity now after the World Cup I can't do that, it was the entire team's decision I spearhead, this is due to the late equalizer we suffered in Casablanca.

''The Guineans were faster and piled pressure in the dying minutes of play and if we didn't delay play and use counter attacks they were going to equalize as they did in Casablanca.

“But to all Ghanaians I'm sorry for this act if it was wrongly administered.”
