Ghana goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey made his Major League Soccer debut and kept a clean sheet as Portland Timbers drew 0-0 with Real Salt Lake on the opening day.

The 27-year-old recovered from a hip problem which made him an injury doubt before the start of the campaign.

Kwarasey quit Norwegian side Stromsgodset late last year after seven years at the club.

Also in the MLS, Dominic Oduro came off the bench to replace Justin Mapp on 86 minutes in Montreal Impact’s 1-0 defeat at DC United.

Gershon Koffie was a second half substitute as Vancouver Whitecaps lost 3-1 at home to FC Toronto.
