Ghana football mourns Alhaji Aliu Mahama

Former Ghana veep Alhaji Aliu Mahama died on Friday at aged 66

Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi on behalf of the football community has expressed deepest sympathy on the death of former Vice President, H.E. Alhaji Aliu Mahama. 

The former Ghana Vice President, who served two terms in the same position from 2001 to 2008 passed away on Friday, 16 November 2012 at the age of 66 after suffering illness.

H.E. Alhaji Aliu Mahama also served as a Board member of Premier League side, Real Tamale United.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of H.E. Alhaji Aliu Mahama,” Kwesi Nyantakyi wrote in a statement.

“Alhaji Aliu Mahama was a football person with one of Ghana’s traditional clubs, Real Tamale United where he was a member of the Board of Directors. He will also be fondly remembered for his generous gesture of fair play, humility and discipline.

“He helped promote the sport during his time as a Director of Real Tamale United and when he was the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.

“On behalf of the Ghana Football Association and the football family, I would like to express our deepest sympathy to the entire family, friends and associates.

“May Allah keep his soul and give his family courage and strength in this difficult time. We will honour his memory for his positive contribution to the sport.”
