Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi wants to use the World Cup appearance to build a solid foundation for the sport in the country.

The Black Stars are playing their third consecutive finals but the federation wants to do something different.

“Build a strong basis in coaching, refereeing, sports medicine and youth football so that our qualification would not be a nine-day wonder,” Nyantakyi said on Joy FM.

“Prior to 2006 we never got there so it was big news for us to go to the World Cup. Now how do you sustain that momentum of qualifying to the World Cup is what you should look at.

"You must have a strong youth system that will support the regeneration of football talents into the senior team that will ensure that you qualify to subsequent World Cups so that Ghana goes to the next World Cup in Russia, the next World Cup in Qatar and the next World Cup after that wherever it is,” he said.
