The Ghana FA has asked the Sierra Leone government to contact the Ghana government for clearance from the Ministry of Health before they can play their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Accra.

The Sierra Leone Football Association asked their Ghanaian counterparts for permission to play some of its African Cup qualifiers in Ghana because of the Ebola outbreak at home.

Sierra Leone’s government cancelled all football there because of the deadly virus, which is thought to have killed over 1,000 people in Sierra  Leone, Guinea and Liberia, and may have spread to Nigeria.

But the GFA says even though it is keen on hosting their ‘brothers’ from Sierra Leone, government health authorities in Ghana must give the clearance before the matches can be played in Accra.

“While the GFA is keen on helping out our brothers from Sierra Leone, we are uncertain about the health implications for our country,” a statement from the GFA on Tuesday evening read.

“Therefore the GFA has asked the SLFA to ask their government to make a formal request to the government of Ghana for consideration by the Ministry of Health.

“It is based on this report from Ghana’s Ministry of Health that a decision will be taken.”

The Confederation of African Football said in a statement on Tuesday that Sierra Leone indicated it wanted to move its home ties in the final qualifying round to Ghana.

CAF said the request had been made to Ghanaian authorities and ‘necessary reviews are being undertaken.’

CAF still has to rule if Guinea, the country believed to be the source of the outbreak, is allowed to play qualifiers at home.

No clearance for this game at this crucial moment..Why can’t Isa Hayatou arrange this match to be played at his back yard in Cameroon.

  3. Why Ghana and not Ivory Coast or Senegal? Which is closest to them? They know Ivory Coast or Senegal will decline, and rightfully so. They are only been prudent. But Ghanaian’s are just “pushovers”. Protecting ones nation and citizens doesn’t mean that one is cruel or not caring. It’s just that one is been wise. Desperate times require desperate measures. This Ebola disease is the most deadly in the world. Even more than the Aids virus. Somebody should tell me why we are hosting them at all. At what cost and expense. Once only one case enters your country, that’s it. Countries all over the world are shutting their doors to this disease but why are we been forced to do this? Why are we even considering this. Just say “No”. Ghana has many times over helped many of our West African brothers. But this time over we should No. The lives of our citizens are more important than pleasing some Soccer Bosses in CAF or FIFA . Why can’t our gov’t say no for once. We the citizens are saying a big “No” to hosting Serra Leone or Congo in Ghana. We are not being wicked or uncaring, just being prudent. We all know that Sierra Leone can not qualify for the AFCON anyway, so why gamble with the lives of our citizens. Ghanaians should rise up and say “No” in this matter. Thanks .

GFA has done the right thing. Authority must be granted by Gh government and not GFA.

It is true why not Senegale or Ivory Coast? Cause their coming with a huge supporters to Ghana which shall give us bad news. Theres going to be thousands of them to cheer their team up can Government check all of these people in one time? Some of whom will travel by road to Ghana to watch that game. Something must be done or when they arrive at kotoka international airport each of them must be scann proparlly and Ghanaians should not shake hands with them or go closer prevention is better than curing. They should bring their buses to Ghana to carry their fans and the hotels should be careful with their fans during their stay and after all the bed sheets must be burn well. It is bad news that Ghanaians are accepting them to play in Ghana for what reasons? Please government should say no thanks to them. Ghanaian leaders are very foolish enough, they dont care about their citizens. This is just simply tell them you are not accepting them because of Ebola disease thats all.

Is just by a pure coincidence that this dreaded, deadly disease has not been going in Ghana and instead of working hard to protect ourselves from this diseases, our foolish fa wants to bring this calamity upon us!!

What at a all is wrong with this so called ghana fa? U went to Brazil to mess up and Ghanaians hasn’t forgiven u and u want to allow a country who has been blacklisted by the W.H.O as Ebola infected nation into ghana? For what?

I know that the sierra Leone fs ll pay money and this money ll end up into the dirty pocket of some old wretched baffon whiles poor Ghanaians ll suffer!!

THEY SHOILD TRY THIS NONSENSES AND LET SEE!

  8. selfmade says:

Because of money, these low lying bastatds are going to sell our national safety n security!!!

Ghanaians should stand up and resist this foolish, stupid and small time thinking by these bunch of useless Ghanaian men calling themslevs fa!!

Nkwasifoo aseafoo!! Ghana fa, my fucking ass!!

These countries share border with Gambia, Senegal etc and they should help and not Ghana!!

    WE LL SEE!

  9. selfmade says:

Too many backward thinking Buffon’s running this country!!

How can an responsible fa play with A THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY? I can’t even understand this and now, our fa are also experts in health as well?! How can a mere fa, give the go ahead for the another country to come to Ghana probably with their supporters to play here knowing very well that, this country is Ebola infected and thousands are dying of this deadly disease from that particular country!

BNI should ARREST THE FA MEMBERS and question them as to why they gave the greenlight for the sierra leones to use our stadium for their afcon qualifier!!

FOOLISH, INEPT LOW LYING BIFFONS! Afcon qualifiers my ass and in fact , some of these bunch of fa members behaves likes animals!

If this is not total madness, caf should have suspend this useless, meaningless afcon qualifiers till this Ebola menance is put under control! What is so special about afcon anyway that some bunch of African old school dictators lining their nasty pockets with the proceeds from this good for nothing so called tournamemt!!

LET THIS FUCKING FA BRING THID COUNTRY TO GHANA AND WE LL SEE! EBOLA CAN BE TRANSFER THRU SEX TOO!

  10. Abram says:

We’re coming to support our team in full force as you know we can’t afford to miss out on qualification.

  11. Toni says:

@ Edward ,Maryland…cos your cash strapped govt needs money.

  12. Chukwe says:

    Finland is finishing Ghana off!

  13. Di Carlo says:

the main problem is the fans coming down to Ghana,no right thinking person should sanction this game to be played in Ghana,I will prefer to save a life than to watch a football match we are not that desperate…this virus is deadly without a cure and we dont have the facilities and infracstructure to contain any outbreak…common sense is to isolate this virus to spare further precious lives if that means those matches should be suspended, foolish thing is to spread the virus because of a stupid game as much as we love the beautiful game the cost of our negligence will be far greater and catastrophic.

  14. A Cool Guy says:

Probably they thought Ghanaian leaders are weak and money conscious so they are going to influence them to breakthrough..How come nations have closed their borders to these Ebola infected countries?..How come nations have stopped their flights to these countries??..How come they themselves can not play the match in their own country because of the spread of Ebola??? But now our FA who has just messed Ghanains up in this Mundial 2014 will not let sleeping dogs lie..they want to invite more serious problems to compound our situation..Why Kwasi Nyantekyi and the FA?? The Government must also be careful not to give it go ahead..already the economy is in shambles..high prices, the fall of the currency,”dumsor” etc..Don’t go and invite Ebola to compound the already volatile situation..Isa Hayatou is old and probably loosing his bearings, Why can’t CAF suspend this good for nothing tournament until further notice?

  15. theobanks says:

    Selfmade

That’s a good analysis! BNI needs to arrest the fa members who gave the leones the greenlight to use Ghana as their home place for the qualifiers without first consulting the government!

How can a mere fa assured the sierra leoneans that they can used Ghana as their home grounds without any approve or so ever from the government? How? This is country whose citizens are dying of this deadly Ebola disease and a mere fa can assure these guys of using Ghana as their home grounds in terms of this catastrophic disease, amounts to TREASOSN!

This is an treason offence and the BNI should arrest all those fa members who took that decision and question them because their actions only not affects national security but usurps the power of the president!!

This is what BNI should be doing and stop meddling in useless local politics!!

    Good points selfmade!

  16. selfmade says:

Is all because of money that’s why this derelict, confused irresponsible bunch of thugs and thieves calling themselves fa members are doing that!

We just returned from the WC and we all that, the appearance fee, goals scored togather with other sponsorship money by FIFA and puma have been paid and is just surprising that the fa is still broke!!

Sierra Leone is coming to play their home match in Ghana amidst Ebola infections which has killed thousands in their country but because of money, some few useless bunch of wee smoking so called fa members wants to expose Ghanaians to this deadly disease!!

The money that LL be paid by sierra Leone LL end up into some DIRTY POCKETS OF GOOD FOR NOTHING FOOT SOLDIER OF NDC!

U see, the government needs money to support their campaigns and hence wldnt mind selling our safety for some DAMN DOLLARS FROM EBOLA INFECTED SIERRA LEONE!

  17. selfmade says:

The so called caf, should suspend this good for nothing tournment till this deadly disease is put under control!

What so special about afcon anyway? They should suspend this mediocrity tournament that has a low capital reward for its winners and rather help these Ebola countries to fight this disease rather than thinking selfishly about their good for nothing association!!

Whiles our African brothers and sisters are dying of this deadly disease, these old school morons are still thinking of their stomach rather than the countries that make this useless association functions!!

Sometimes I don’t even understand mindset of African leaders! What’s wrong with guinea, libera and sierra Leone?

This is the time they need all their resources to fight against this disease that’s killing their citizens but their useless leaders rather wants to spend huge sums of monies on their national teams! Can u believe this bull?

These three countries LL move their matches to neutral grounds and they LL pay HUGE AMOUNT of money to their host whiles their government cannot even control this disease!!!

    CRY THE BELOVED CONTINENT!

    • anokwale says:

      Just a few facts:

Please do not fall for the negative hype on Africa. This disease is not an airborne disease so you really have to have intense contact with bodily fluids.
Note the the two physicians in the USA are recovering because of proper intravenous fluid therapy and an experimental serum. (Hospital equipment, infrastructure). There is no cure but proper medical infrastructure and early intervention can save lives.
Let us not stereotype Africa negatively and hurt our already fragile economies.
AFCON 2015 is very important because Morocco has a strong tourism infrastructure and is the only country that could possibly host the WC in Africa again. They need this showcase.

  18. iceman the candy ice says:

    Anokwale..

Yes is true that it can be managed with good health infrastructure but the question is this, can Ghana and for that matter Africa manage this disease?

Already, thousands has died in guinea, Leone and Liberia and this is a clear indication that Africa is not prepared to deal with this disease!!

USA is hundred years ahead of Africa! We shouldn’t entertain them because I.coast, Gambia and Senegal are closer than Ghana!!

  19. King says:

Ghana has been booted out of the ongoing under 20 women’s worldcup…Korea n Canada thru.

  20. Mumbi says:

Waste africa pwaaaaa!!!!!!!!! Dirty animals full of ebola.
Good that your women u-20 is out they were just spreading ebola in Canada with their smelly pussies.

  21. @anokwale.. I don’t see the point you are trying to make. Are you more knowledgeable about the disease than the doctors treating the patients? Even the doctors treating the Ebola patients are themselves dying from the disease and you sit there trying to defend the indefensible. My friend, this is not politics, human lives are at stake. Do you know how many doctors have so far lost their lives to the disease?

  22. GSN, compare my comment to the one just posted by Mumbi and tell me which one needs moderation. If there is any iota of truth or fairness in you guys, publish both and let’s decide for ourselves. You guys can try but you can’t suppress the truth.
