Ghana FA supports coach Appiah's policy of bringing in more players

Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah

The Ghana FA has thrown its support behind coach Akwasi Appiah to keep changing his team until he finally settles on the squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have seen many new faces under the former Ghana captain in recent times.

One of such new faces, Afriyie Acquah fetched Ghana the solitary goal in the win over Malawi to seal qualification for next year’s Nations Cup in South Africa.

Appiah’s policy of casting his net wide has however been criticized in some quarters – mainly for what they term ‘instability’ of the team especially with the AFCON on the horizon.

The critics believe the Ghana coach should be settled on his team for the finals by now rather than still operate his ‘open door’ system.

But Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi says the process of handing as many as possible invitations to the national team is necessary to get the right players for the tournament.

“The coach is in the process of getting his team so obviously there will be changes and the need to give everyone a chance,” he told Kumasi-based Kessben FM.

“You also have to know that players are invited to the national team per the opposition we face.

“But with the Nations Cup, there should be a blend of players to meet different opponents.

“So I think this process of team changes will continue until December there about when we will have a fair idea of the players we will be taking to the Nations Cup.”

Ghana will be making an attempt to end an over 30-year period without any silverware at next year’s finals in South Africa.

  2. yopoo says:

@Rasheed thank you very much sir u know them too well they are blind if they know what is good for them they will not go and bring fringe players players who didn’t play any part in Ghana qualification to the afcon just because their from their tribe.they can even go and bring Messi and Ronaldo Appiah can’t win anything because he is blind.

i agree with mr kwesi appia but the one and most inportant player which mr appiah has 4 goten is DAVID TITI ACCAM

  4. yopoo says:

Blind GFA always talk of winning Afcon will local coaches but they forget that by then none of the players was playing in europe they were all base home.Even if this Appiah has played in europe before I think it could have been better.

We have 8 final game appearances and 4 cups…

      Record since 2006

You have never even made it past the Round of 16 in the world cup! Kwaseato!!!

2006 World cup round of 16 2008 African cup semi final 2010 Africa cup Final… 2010 world cup quarter final… 2012 African cup Semi final…

What has your animal team done ABOA!! Super Chicken!

  8. kantoose says:

A.A do not listen to all this negative people. You are on the right track and some if us support you a 100%. You will win Afcon.
Piece of advice for our next friendly game, try Mubarak Wakaso at the problematic Left back and lets see how he man the position. He regularly plays left back for espanyol.

  9. kantoose says:

and you have to talk to Andre Ayew YOURSELF. Dont let anybody do that for you.

  10. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

he must blend local/continental based players 50 percent with non african based PLAYERS 50 PERCENT. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN SURELY OFFER OURSELVES A CHANCE OF WINNING THE TROPHY. EGYPT WON THE TRIPLE WITH LOCAL PLAYERS, SO DID ZAMBIA AND EVEN SPAIN. WE HAVE BEEN PARADING FOREIGN BASED PLAYERS TO AFCON, AN AFRICAN TOURNAMNT FOR 30YRS WITH NOTHING TO SHOW FOR. WHY DO WE CONTINUE MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES OVER AND OVER AND EXPECT TO REAP REWARDS? I WANT TO SEE THESE PLAYERS AT AFCON AA…WAKASSO, ABEYIE, AFFUM, YIADOM. PLS, TAKE MY ADVICE AND LEAVE MUNTARI(INJURY), PAINSTIL AND DEREK BOATENG OFF. PAINSTIL AND BOPATENG WERE AT AFCON 2012 AND FAILED TO HELP GH DO ANYTHING. I WOULD PUT MUNTARI AND KWADWO ASAMOAH IN THE SAME BOAT AS WELL, BUT LETS BE FRANK. THEY R DOING GREAT THINGS WITH JUVE AND AC MILAN. BUT PAINSTIL AND BOATENG MUST BE RETIRED FROM GBSTARS. TRUST ME, THEIR TIME IS UP. THEY MUST ACCEPT THEIR FATE AND MOVE ON, GIVE CHANCES TO OTHERS. AA, IF U DONT LISTEN AND U CALL PAINSTIL OR D BOATENG, U WILL HAVE YOURSELF TO BLAME.

  11. Paul says:

Akwasi appiah hasnt failed yet, besides he isnt tribalistic at all. I personally believe in him to make it for GHANA. Dont jst hate him.

  12. real sabacious says:

Sometimes i wonder why Nyantakyi cant shun some questions!how can u say u support bringing in more players into the stars?he should have added quality more players instead. Can Nuhu(norway)Acheapong(thailand)Nyarko(u.s.a)other guys from the south Africa league and duo of local players in the team be regarded as a quality players? If Akwasi Appiah wants to be fair and consistent, these following are those he must pick him team from.keepers;Kwarasey,Daniel,Fatau Dadau,Sammy Agjei(defenders)David Addy,Akaminko, boye,Jonathan Mensah,Vorsah,Wakaso,Nana Akwasi Asare,(Opare?Paintsil?Afful?)Inkoom?)
    (Midfielders)Sulley,Annan,Badu,Essien,Atsu,K.Asamoah,Dede,Albert Adomah,Rabiu Mohammed,Adu Kofi(Afriyie Aquah?Derek Boateng?)
    (STRIKERS)Gyan,Jordan Ayew,Boakye Yiadom,Abeyie,Warris(Clottey????)
These are the best players Ghana has at the moment!Apart from the above players, any player AA call into the team is just to satisfy some personalities.i’m expecting AA to come clear and tell Ghanaians why Abeyie and Nana Akwasi have not been called into the team to justify, according to his more players policy?these 2 players have been consistent for their respective clubs in the last 3 seasons.Anyway i’m happy to see lee Addy,Prince of woes Tagoe and Adiyiah out of the team.

    • Ghanaman says:

generally good post.. No more East Asian based players… It is getting embarrassing when we have guys doing well in top 11 leagues…

Lee Addy is not getting any better playing against Chinese opposition…

  13. Yakubu says:

I can believe why some peoples have to come to this forum only just to insults AA for no reason,My advice to AA is that,he should continue his good work for mother Ghana Cos this world not everyone will love you, Just do what you think is right and the good Allah may see you through

  14. Gentlman says:

Sometimes I can believe why some peoples have to run fast to this forum just to insult AA for no reason when they found out any news about him and that is unfair attitudes

  15. kimco says:

and with that logic above, we’ll always fail as a team. Thank you for revealing yourself real sebacious.

  16. PATAKO GYE KOKO says:

I WOULD PREFER CLOTTEY TO JORDAN AYEW.JORDAN IS SOMETIMES USE…..L…..Z.
