Ghana FA nears agreement with Glo over fresh Premier League sponsorship deal
Glo set to secure fresh deal to sponsor Ghana Premier League

The Ghana FA are in discussions to sign a new contract with Globacom to again become headline sponsors of the Premier League.

The Nigerian-owned telecommunications firm’s initial five-year agreement to sponsor the Ghanaian top flight has expired.

Glo’s sponsorship of the Premier League has been saddled with challenges of prompt payments of sponsorship monies to the clubs.

They are currently reported to owe about $2.2m in arrears payments – a situation that has taken a massive hit at the scarce resources of Premier League clubs.

But the Ghana FA in the absence of any viable alternative have decided to open talks towards signing a new sponsorship agreement with Glo despite their unreliability with payments.

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has already held meetings with top Globacom officials and now appears to be reaching for another agreement between the two parties.

“Yes I went to Nigeria and we spoke to the Glo officials, we are expecting a new deal to be signed by close of next month,” The GFA boss sais on Tuesday.

“We are still talking and I know we will come to an amicable agreement with Globacom.”
