The Ghana FA has launched its maiden National Women’s League in Accra.

The competition which be played in two sectors ( Northern and Southern) will see twelve teams compete in its maiden season.

The participating teams include; Reformers Ladies ,Ashtown Ladies, Lepo Ladies, Bolga Ghatel, Ampim Darkoah Ladies and Fabulous Ladies – for the Northern Sector.

While Hasaacas Ladies, Ayoola Ladies, Immigration Ladies, Soccer Intellectuals, Cape Coast Ghatel and Ho Ghatel will compete in the Southern Sector.

The league will kick off on December 16 with no sponsorship – meaning it will be solely funded by the Ghana FA.

The association however believe the competition is necessary to ensure sustained growth of the Women’s game.

“Over the years the Ghana FA has received a lot of criticisms for not doing enough to support women’s football,” Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi said at the launch on Tuesday

“You will all agree that organizing football at any level is quite expensive and the story is no different with women’s football.

“Until sponsorship is secured the GFA has agreed to bear the cost of officiating and organization expenses relating to this competition.

Winners of the respective zones will play a one-off match to determine the national champions at the end of the season.

Two teams that finishes bottom in either of the two sectors after the season will be automatically relegated while the third from bottom sides will compete in a one-off fixture to determine which side joins the two other relegated sides.
