The Ghana Football Association has hailed striker Abdul Majeed Waris for being named the 2012 Swedish Premier League Best Player.

Waris won the coveted prize on Monday after shrugging off competition from his Hacken teammate Martin Ericsson and Malmo midfielder Pontus Jansson.

The 21-year-old also won the top scorer prize in the Swedish top-flight by netting 23 times in 29 matches.

Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi at a meeting with the Black Stars in Lisbon ahead of the friendly against Cape Verde on Wednesday.

“Waris has been named the Swedish Premier League’s Player of the Year and this is a big achievement not only for the striker but for our country,” Nyantakyi told the Black Stars.

“His achievements this season has brought honour to our country so we are encouraging all of you to fight so that you can also emulate what Waris has done to bring honour to our country.”

Waris could mark his full debut against the Blue Sharks in the absence of captain Asamoah Gyan.
