The Ghana FA has confirmed news of Andre Ayewââ¬â¢s injury but wants the player in camp for the Black Stars' medical team to assess the problem.
The Ghana international suffered a hamstring injury in training with Olympique Marseille on Wednesday.
Ayew has been ruled out for an initial five days but the uncertainty surrounding a hamstring injury makes him a major doubt for the 2013 Nations Cup.
The Ghana FA however wants the 23-year-old to report to the Black Stars camp in Abu Dhabi by Saturday for the teamââ¬â¢s medical department to access his injury.
ââ¬ÅWe received a letter with a medical report from Marseille over the injury of Andre Ayew,â⬠GFA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie-Daara told Asempa FM.
ââ¬ÅWe have responded to Marseilleââ¬â¢s letter where we expressed regret over the injury.
ââ¬ÅMarseille have requested they keep the player until January 9th but the FIFA regulation has its deadline for foreign players to be released for the tournament on Saturday.
ââ¬ÅBut we have also informed them that we would want the player by this deadline for our medical team to access his injury.
ââ¬ÅAs you know Abu Dhabi has advanced medical facilities so we are sure we can have the best medical treatment for the player.ââ¬
Ayewââ¬â¢s injury comes in the wake of the unfortunate injury of Yahaya Mohammed who has been ruled out of the 2013 Nations Cup after picking a groin injury.
