Ghana FA boss stays clear off player selection to national teams

Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi

Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi pledges never to interfere in the selection of players into any of the national teams.

A quota system for the inclusion of locally-based players is being proposed for especially the senior national team, the Black Stars which has been thoroughly dominated by foreign-based players in recent years.

But Nyantakyi says his only interest is the selection of the best available materials regardless of where they play their football.

“I will never propose such a thing to any coach,” he said.

“In sometime past the Black Stars was dominated by only Hearts of Oak players but people easily tend to forget this.

“I don’t think where a player plays his football should be factored in selection of players but rather the best available materials at the coaches disposal.”

No outfield local player made it to the final 23-man squad that represented Ghana at the recently ended Nations Cup where the Black Stars placed fourth.

Only goalkeepers; Daniel Agyei and Ernest Sowah who play for Ghanaian topflight teams Liberty Professionals and Berekum Chelsea respectively were taken along.

  2. SETH says:

MR PRESIDENT, I AGREE WITH YOU THAT PLAYER SELECTION SHOULD NOT BE BASED ON WHERE ONE PLAYS HIS OR HER FOOTBALL.BUT SOMETIMES IS VERY DEVASTATING TO SEE SOME PLAYERS LEFT OUT OF THE NATIONAL TEAMS, ESPECIALY THE BLACK STAR BASE ON MYSTEROUS REASONS. IF I SHOULD ASK YOU WHY EMMANUEL BAFFOE OF NEW EDUBIASE WAS LEFT OUT OF THE BLACK STAR TEAM THAT PERFORMED ABYSMALY AT THE JUST ENDED AFCON, WHAT ANSWER WILL YOU GIVE ME. AS A GFA PRESIDENT, TO ME YOU ARE NOT THERE TO ;CHOP’ GARGANTUAN MONEY AND TO HELP K….KO TO WIN LEAGUE CUP ON A SILVER PLATTER BUT TO LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF GHANIANS AND MAKE USEFUL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COACHES AND I BELIEVE THIS DOES NOT AMOUNT TO INTERFERENCE,”FOR IT IS SAID THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE IS THE VOIVCE OF GOD.. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS US ALL. GUD EVN TO: BOSS,KWAKU, QUOPHAI,AREA,FREEMAN.

pure lies!!if a player doesnt have a God father or belongs to an agency that works with the Gfa.the said player chances of playing for the stars are slim.if i may ask,how did masahudu who is a reserve 4 Genoa, takyi who hasn’t played for st.paul the whole season, paintsil who doesnt even warm the bench of leicester city and is out of form, average Abu who cant break into the first 11 of frankfurt and good for nothing tagoe find their way into the final 23 man list in the last afcon ahead of active and inform players like nana akwasi, david addy, kumordzi, abeyie, baffour and others?no wonder the above mentioned players haven’t kick a ball for their clubs after the afcon.lastly, why r u delaying to switch jerry vandam?its simply!to protect paintsil and inkoom’s in the team.the same thing was done by pappoe and randy just to give monopoly to olele.i hope, the appointment of a new will turn things around.players are call into national teams by their club performance and nothing else!!

  5. well i think this guy has finally seen how biased the system of player selection to blackstar is and for him to even come out talking of strategies to allocate some slots to the local players is something we should embrace. there are a lot good materials in the local league but human efforts within the rank and file of the GFA has made it impossible for such players to play blackstars. this is a welcome news meaning only the best would be called to feature for ghana. lets sit back and see what happens. inclusion of local players in my view will go a long way to enhance our local league. just look at how brekum chelsea silenced raja club of morocco. our local league needs us and lets do all we can to revive it. charity they say begin at home and an idea to increase local quality players to compete for positions in the national team is sign to revive our league because every local player will bring the best out of himself.

  6. GFA CANT MESS WITH GHANAIANS. says:

He is just saying this because Desaily won’t give him that chance. There is nothing more he can do at the moment.

I agree with you. A player should not be selected based on where he plays his football. A player should be selected purely on considerations of merit; whether they are locally based or foreign based. Frankly, if people talk about building the Blackstars on local players I wonder if they think through well at all. They cite Zambia as example, but Zambia didn’t win merely because they used local players. Zambia won through a combination of factors including good preparation, cohesiveness and luck. If Zambia had foreign players who were better than the local players the coach would have used them. Let’s stop the shallow thinking.
