Nyantakyi backs Issa Hayatou to stay on as CAF chief, plans for future

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi says he is fully backing Cameroonian Issa Hayatou to stay on CAF president, admitting that he could contest for the top post when the highly-respected Cameroonian quits the top position.

The affable lawyer who is currently on the powerful CAF Executive Committee believes he will be a viable candidate for the CAF top job once Issa Hayatou decides to leave the post.

Nyantakyi is a highly popular figure amongst his peers at the continental football governing body and is highly tipped amongst other brilliant relative youngsters as the future of the body.

The GFA boss who has affirmed hos fullest support for incumbent Issa Hayatou however says he will be interested in the position once it becomes vacant.

“Issa Hayatou and I have had a close working relationship and I am one of his strong backers of him,” Nyantakyi told the Presidential Commission.

“But when he finally decides to leave, I think I could be a good candidate for the post.”

Issa Hayatou has confirmed his decision to run for office for at least one more term when his current mandate expires next year.

The Cameroonian has been at the helm of CAF since 1998 when he succeeded Tessema.
