Ghana defender Paintsil discharged from hospital, did not attempt suicide - statement

Posted On Tuesday, 26th February 2013

Ghana defender John Paintsil

Ghana defender John Paintsil has been discharged from hospital after collapsing on Tuesday morning, it has been confirmed.

The 31-year-old was taken to the Ghana-Canada hospital in East Legon after passing out in his home in the Ghanaian capital.

Hapeol Tel Aviv right-back has since been discharged with details over his collapse not readily known.

This news has been confirmed by the player’s spokesman Ebenezer Aidoo in a press release this afternoon.

The statement also gave a brief detail of Paintsil’s passing out – killing rumours the experienced defender attempted suicide.

“John Paintsil was unfortunately hospitalized this morning suffering from exhaustion and dehydration,” the statement read.

“He received medical care at a hospital in Accra this morning and he has been released to go home to continue with his recovery.

“The past five days have taken a severe emotional toll on the entire Paintsil family, Richlove and John especially, and that toll manifested itself in the unfortunate incident this morning.

The Paintsil family is immensely grateful to the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Football Association for the big support they have given and continue to give the family.

“We ask the media to give the entire family privacy during this difficult time.”

Paintsil has been in the news all week for the wrong reasons after he was detained by the Police for allegedly assaulting his wife, Richlove last Friday.

The ex Fulham player was according to information, expected to report to the Legon Police Station to sign an undertaken to be of good behaviour after having a charge of assault and causing body harm to his wife and neighbour dropped.

What a pity, pity in the sense that he collapsed. But for the assault on his wife and neighbor!!!!!! He should try to be gentle and responsible next time and not the other way round.

  4. Kwame says:

He probably collapsed from excessive guilt from putting his wife in the hospital. Either that or God struck him down.

  5. Dr Who says:

Appiah Stadium is a twerp.God will punish him for all this mess.

I guess “Thou shalt not beat thy wife mercilessly” is not one of the ten commandments, so you you are willing to overlook that? Your anger is misplaced.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this whole “collapsing” episode was staged by the GFA.

  6. Joojo says:

No smoke without fire! What really happened at AFCON 2013?? The burden is becoming too heavy for Mr. Painstil!! GFA is fighting tooth and nail to avert a looming scandal which can make heads roll!

    Via Ghanaweb:

Deputy Black Stars captain John Paintsil who has been in the news lately for assaulting his wife may have attempted suicide, his Blackberry Messenger status update suggests.

He posted on his BB status “I will rest in peace …goodbye loved once[es],” shortly before he collapsed and was rushed to the Ghana-Canada Hospital, Tuesday.

News about the collapse of the player came as a surprise Tuesday morning.

It is not yet clear what may have caused the collapse but he was revived by medical officers and released from hospital shortly after he was rushed there.

Joy Sports can confirm again that shortly after he was discharged he posted on his BB Status “That was close. Thanks guys.”
