Ghana defender Nuhu eyes left back slot against Malawi

Posted On Thursday, 6th September 2012

Razak Nuhu is eager to grab the left back slot in the Black Stars

By Patrick Akoto

Defender Abdul Razak Nuhu is confident he can secure the left-back position in the Black Stars ahead of the 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi.

Hea coach Kwesi Appiah kept faith with the 20-year after he impressed heavily in an international friendly against China last month.

With in-form Harrison Afful in the frame, the Stromsgodest left back must fight to be in the final squad expected to play the crucial first leg tie against The Flames at the Accra Sports stadium.

But the former Right to Dream Academy graduate is bracing himself for the challenge ahead.

“I know it’s going to be difficult but all that I am asking for is the opportunity,” Nuhu said

“It is my prayer that I am given the chance to prove my worth and do my best for people to judge me.”

Tunisia-based Harrison Afful is the likely candidates for the position after excelling for Esperance while Samuel Inkoom and Daniel Opare can also be used as make-shift for the position.

The two should be kept to encourage competition. Afful although a right-footed player has great experience at the left-back. Nuhu a natural left-footed player, fast and strong with accurate passes, communicates well with Kwaresey is a huge blessing to the team. I say, keep both of them.

  2. maka says:

Afful doesnt fit that slot! We must stop using right back for left…because anytime they have to cross, they must shift the ball to the right before they can cross! Square pegs in round holes won’t help us—Ghanaians like repeating the same mistakes over time too much.

Kwasi Appiah….we have left backs that are natural and good….USE THEM! Dont place square pegs in round holes and act as if we dont have good players for that slot!

  3. Anokwale says:

I suspect that Nuhu might be the better choice from the little I saw in the China match. He seems to have better ball control.

  4. pee says:

akwasi appiah is not a good coach , so i think we must sack him before its was toooooo late cuz how can u use a right foot back affual to play a left foot while we have good nature left foot like nuhnu and florentina star masual awudu to fit that possion

  5. azumah says:

i think akwasi appiah is experimenting with the team. i still don’t understand inkoom’s inclusion. he has consistently fail to impress and opare fine right back is sacrificed for inkoom. afful and opare are supposed to compete for right back while a natural left back is like nuhu is used.
